Default VirginMobile: Contact Vault for saving entries

We have a couple of Virgin Mobile phones that we have for low usage.
Wanted to load them with our old contacts list.
Tried a data cable... but phones are crippled, and it doesn't work.

SO - Virgin Mobile has this new offering (as does US Cellular)
to upload/download your entries to a server for review, adds, changes on the
website.

OK - I tried it -
At least for me, it is not "reliable".
Something is amiss in the data transfer, as I have about 90 entries,
but not all of them get downloaded to the phone...
I can see "some" of the data transfer by the top of screen "data arrow" icons
blinking.
But - they blink & quit.... or blink back and forth, and then quit... it's like
watching a modem

First, I tried erasing all entries on the phone for a clean slate each time - no
difference.
Then only handful transfer... then next try I get more, then the same, etc

SO, as a backup for re-loading entries onto the phone, it fails to completely
restore.

Wonder if anyone else has tried this Contact Vault from Virgin Mobile ?

what you really mean - is having a SIM card -
except, if you loose the phone (and SIM card)
you're in the same boat with no "external" backup.

True, but if the phone is hosed or you get a new one, all ya have do to is
change phones and all your contacts are good.

Be that as it may, I have suggested people visiting from europe, who don't
have unlocked phones, or wish for a cheapie phone for a US visit, to just
get a low end Virgin M. phone and use it while they are here, Sprints
network is good, and for the most part they're in cities or in tourist
areas where coverage is excellent, and for the most part its cheaper then
ATT's goPhones and more or less similar and slightly less then TM.
