I have discovered many things about the iPhone 3G that are really
neat, especially from some fo the additional Value added applications
that I love. There are new hidden features built into the new OS that
pop up as a surprise from time to time and other features that are
down right annoying.
One of the biggest annoyances is the discovery iPhone syncing is no
longer a quick wham bam thank you but a long drawn out relationship.
YOU HAVE TO WAIT WHILE THE IPHONE IS COMPLETELY BACKED UP TO YOUR PC
BEFORE IT WILL SYNC NEW INFORMATION.
WHAT?
Wll not every sync but close to it. I have figured out that in part
that if you add apps using 3G or WIFI to the phone there is a need to
sync the app section back to iTunes. There is the new screen shot
feature which is nice for saving snaps of a game in progress to your
film roll, these are probably backed up too just in case you forget to
download them to your PC.
NICE TOUCH
Just a few minutes ago I got another large HTML email from Larry
Cosgrove, meteorologist of WeatherAmerica
(WEATHERAmerica@GoogleGroups.com) . His emails are always filled with
about a dozen large images of developing USA weather and satellite
analysis of global weather patterns. These are a significant load even
on a PC not even to say for a tiny cell phone. The crack berry can't
even begin to process these emails as they are sent. The slick iPhone
displays these in line in the message where they go, naturally with no
problem. But the new iPhone OS also pops up a new window if you tap on
one of these images asking if you want to save it? It also asks if you
want to save all eight or what ever the number of attached images you
have in one fell swoop. These go into your photo library where you can
do a lot more including slide shows, faster zooming/rotation etc. than
is possible in the email display. You can also send these images back
to your PC for use there if you want to.
DISAPPOINTMENT
I still can not grab the images from Gocomics.com on the iPhone
without using the new OS trick of expanding the cartoon display to
perfectly fit the screen and then taking a screen shot by holding the
hold button while taping the top right sleep switch. What is the
difference in these emails?
MORE
There is a bunch more I have found in the new OS and 3G hardware but I
am too tired to write about how these things may be of benefit to
others right now.
BTW
TIP look carefully when entering a password in the new OS, that idea
was stolen from crack berry or Palm. Nice touch for the iPhone though.
