I've tried to disable the sound, but I don't think it's possible.

Press the hash key to put it in silence mode. Got to ask why would you want
to? I find it a bloody nuisance to not get the beep that lets me know it is
in focus.

Ah, thanks! But you're right, the camera takes so long to focus and take
a picture that it's nice to have some kind of confirmation that it's
about to do its job.
