Default Telstra NextG Sony Ericsson Handset

New Australian network - UMTS 3G @ 850, HSDPA

Anyone know if SE are bringing out a NextG handset?

Not for the foreseeable future, no. Like a sensible company, they'll wait
until there's actually a point.

Yeah, I think Nokia is the same, although I did hear that a Nokia NextG was
due for February.
Why don't you see a point? Australia's a pretty small market, but I think
20M people is a decent target for sales. Especially as the NextG is the
choice du jour. But, I don't know how much is involved with R&D for Sony.

It is? I don't know one single person who's even aware of it past the
blanket advertising, let alone anyone who actually subscribes to it. The
only conversations I've had with people about NextG has been about how
bug-ridden it's reportedly turned out to be.

Well, it does have the advantage of being the only 3G service that's
available all over Australia. I've had no problems with it at all so far. On
the contrary, I've been most impressed with the bandwidth I'm getting using
my mobile as a modem and the video calling is pretty schmick, too. The
Foxtel content is just a gimmick at the moment, although it looks very
pretty and is crystal clear. The only thing missing is a SE handset.

The JasJam is very bug-ridden by all accounts. I'm told that a firmware
upgrade will fix it, but I haven't heard of when it'll be available. I get
the feeling that it needs a full re-vamp.
What bugs, specifically, have you heard about?

Pop over to aus.comms.mobile for some first-hand accounts of how
problematic the service is.

It was probably launched way, way before it was ready for prime time, but
that's Telstra for you.
