Help: K1m "Lock Application" not working on Contacts

Hi. problem: the "Lock Application" feature on my K1m doesn't seem to
work on my contacts list.

i've tried using a solution provided by someone in motorola's forums,
(using the "Select" soft key instead of the central select key).
unfortunately no success.

things got wierd, really wierd today...

after changing the speed dial designations for possibly the eleventh
contact, the lock application feature suddenly started working. i'm all
smiles, until about one hour later... i created a new contact... then the
lock application suddenly doesn't work anymore.

tech support could not help me... i'm considering returning the phone or
sending it to a my carrier's facility where it'll be swapped with a
refurbished phone...

can anybody help solve this "lock application" problem by getting it to
start working and stay working?

fyi: i think i've resolved the problem. the source is the screen saver.
if you're also having htis problem, de-activate the screensaver.
