Default tower scan menu

There is a command that you can enter from the menu of a nextel phone,
a combination of menu and other keys, that enables the phone to scan
and grab the most powerful tower available, not necessiaraly the
closest tower (or vice versa)

The downfall is it shortens your battery life.

I do not recall the command or key stroke combonation. can anyone
offer a suggestion as to what it is.
