Default When will it happen?

Many of us that are old enough will remember when a telephone could only
be bought from a telephone company store. The feds discontinued that
requirement and that is why you can buy any phone from any store and it
will work with your current phone company's lines. When will the feds
make that same ruling in regards to cell phones? If I want a new phone
for my cell carrier, why should have to extend my contract for another
two years?
