Default 3G not working on Nokia N96

I won an N96 from Nokia in a contest, but I can't get a 3G data
connection. My provider is Rogers Canada, and my other phone is an
N95 8GB, but when I put the SIM card into the N96 all I get is an EDGE
connection. But when I put the SIM back into the N95, I get 3G. Any
ideas?

Maybe this a stupid question, but do you happen to know which 3G bands
your N96 supports (i.e. whether it's a variant that supports the 3G
frequency/frequencies supported by Rogers) ?

The exact model information should should be available in the label
(under the battery?), which probably should state one of the following
(note that all of the models support GSM/EDGE 850/900/1800/1900):
- N96-1 (RM-247) (RoW, Rest of the World), supports WCDMA 2100/900 bands
- N96-2 (RM-297) (China), WCDMA not supported
- N96-3 (RM-472) (North America), supports WCDMA 1900/850 bands

I have an N96-1. Maybe that's it, maybe it's can't get a 3G
connection because it's not a North American model. (This would
explain the European and BBC promotional material included with it.)
