Default 6230 Speaker problem

My 6230 has stopped ringing and the store tells me it's the speaker. Of
course, they can't fix it and want to sign me up for a new plan.

Is it possible to fix this problem?

I'd prefer not to go thru all the pain of switching.

It is an easily swappable item, if you can find replacement - or just
buy a complete 6230 on ebay, they are quite cheap now.

Does the phonebook live in the SIM chip? Do I just swap that out?

Best way is to either synch the phone's contacts with the PIM app on
your PC (eg Outlook) or just use Nokia PC Suite on your computer to
back them up.

It lives in either the SIM, or the phone, or both. Likewise you can
enable the SIM, or the phone, or both for the contact list. The phones
memory can store a more detailed contact list.

You can back up the phone using Nokia's free PC Suite and restore it to
a similar phone.

Turns out that when I sync'd the phone with a new laptop using freshly
installed Nokia Suite the speaker problem was cured. It's a miracle.

I had had problems sync'ing before and just never followed up. I think
the speaker quit working about that time. My suspicion is that the
software turns the speaker off while working and back on when it's done.
Since my operation never finished the speaker never came back on.

Or, maybe the phone just needed a rest...
