Default Anybody using Betalabs stuff?

http://www.nokia.com/betalabs

My N800 Linux internet tablet is my first Nokia device. It's not a
Sellphone, but it hooks to a Sellphone. My next Sellphone will be a Nokia,
just because of how Nokia treats its tablet customers...open source, not
locked down like products beginning with i. Have any of you reading this
group played much with the Nokia Betalabs toys available for download from
the Betalabs website? Looks great fun for compatible phones.

N800 is simply awesome. Don't hesitate to get one.....

Reading/replying to this using my own Nokia tablet. Haven't checked
out betalabs for some time, but I go to https://garage.maemo.org quite
often to get apps for my tablet.

"PCphone" on betalabs looks interesting. Too bad it's windows-only.

The tablet is great, and I joined this group because I recently got an N75 to
go with the device. Haven't really plumbed the depths of that phone,
but I have had a good time with it.

Nice to meet you, Kevin. I carry my tablet and Nokia BT keyboard all over.

Gamestop has a great hard carrying case for the tablet for $10. It's made
for the Sony PSP, which is about the same size as the N800. If you cut out
the internal flap to carry games, and leave out the velcro extra board,
both the tablet and its BT keyboard will fit very nicely in the zippered
case, Put the tablet in the elastic strapped side with its face to the
soft back of the case and the straps keep the keyboard away from the tablet
just enough to prevent chafing. Works great and much safer to travel with.

I'm still using OS2007 because 2008 takes way too much memory for the 810
stuff we don't use. Sure wish 2007 supported A2DP stereo headsets, but
it's fine on my ear buds or Sony powered speakers.

I'm having great fun with Streamtuner on the tablet, these days. Thousands
of stations to listen to, even over the BT to my MotoROKR Z6m on Alltel.

Nintendo DS cases work well, too. I picked up a padded "wallet" style
one that fits my keyboard and my 770. Since i have the 770, OS2007HE
is as far as I can go on the operating system. Plus, the 770 has its
own hard case that is nice for the times when I don't want to carry
the keyboard and everything.

Did I mention this already? ScummVM is perhaps the coolest
application available for games, provided you have those old LucasArts
games available. I ran Doom on the tablet, too, when I first got it.
That was a fun blast from the past.

I rate ScummVM as the most frustrating application....(c;

I'm 62 and my reaction times are in the dumper. At LEAST they could let an
old man win once in a while and have some PITY on us! But, your are right,
it's one really cool app and loads of fun to play.

Using rdesktop back to the house on a free wifi at a pizza shop, I had one
iPhone owner convinced it would also run Windoze XP under Linux. I paid my
cable company for premium service so I could have lots more upload
bandwidth so the desktop looks quite real on the tablet. "See here, it
even runs Google Earth!", I told the astonished iPhone user showing me the
fish floating around from his accelerometer positions. Google booted and I
put in the location we were in, of course going right to the parking lot.

"I don't use the tablet's Linux email client, I run Pegasus under the
Windows porting.", I continued, trying to keep a straight face as Pegasus
booted my email. Too funny.....

Before he left, I showed him how easy it was for Maemo Linux to upgrade all
the software at once under the App Manager. He'd told me how hard it was
to do anything with Linux.

Of course, the ULTIMATE Linux game is called "Root". If it dies, EVERYONE
dies...(c; Have you crashed YOUR kernel today?.....hee hee.

The crackers are doing some neat things with iPhones, in spite of Apple's
trying to destroy them. Nokia did the right thing letting the hackers have
root access from the beginning. I bought it as a Skype phone, because my
Netgear Skype Phone has no webpage to logon to most commercial hotspots.
But, it's become a lot more of an obsession than I'd planned.....

That's pretty darn funny. However, for real-world coolness sans
trickery, the built-in GPS + loaded maps on the tablet is pretty
nice. 810 only, which I don't have, but I do lust after it.
The N95 can do that too, of course.

I also like to take pictures and videos with my N75, then transfer it
to the tablet via bluetooth and display them there. The bigger screen
was nice for my relatives over the holidays to see the pics we'd just
taken. I was like "you mean you're camera can't do this?"

I bought the Navigation Kit with the N800 mobile mount ssoon after I got
addicted. The tiny Nokia 12 channel GPS is a first class GPS receiver.
It puts you in the lane you are driving in and parking space on Maemo
Mapper. The mount suction cups to the windscreen and I think you'd
break the mount before that cup would let go.

The N800 external BT gps is a much better idea than the n810. It doesn't
matter where the tablet is on the 800, the puck GPS sees the sky. You
can't use the 810 internal gps under a metal roof or obstruction. With
the separate receiver, the tablet WILL have a great fix even though the
tablet can't see the birds. Get it. Fine stuff.

Yes, I like connecting to the phone with FTP from File Manager. Too bad
theee various media players can't play mp3s over the link from the BT
in the phone's external microSD card.
