Default Anyone have a Nokia E90?

I'm very tempted by the E90, despite its high price and the
incompatibility of the G3 connection with U.S. networks. Is there anyone
here who has one is willing to report on it?

Thanks. I had seen various webbed reviews, but not that extensive
discussion board.

Dear David,

I have a E90 and I live in Europe. I am pretty happy with (I have to
warn you: it is very difficult to make me really happy :-).

As I said I am pretty happy: I would buy it again but it is not the
perfect machine. But at the moment is the best mobile phone with a
large screen and full keyboard that I was able to find (I wanted to
avoid Windows Mobile phones since I prefer Symbian)

Some comments that you might not find on reviews:

* keyboard:
* OK, not perfect but usable, more feedback would be better (both in
feeling where the keys are and the pressed feeling)
* keyboard height: when the device is closed the keys touch the
screen. If you fingers are not clean (and I mean really clean) you
will make your screen dirty the first time you close the device

* screen: nice, very nice :-)

* connectivity: OK for me but if you need a VPN client you will have
to wait (see http://matteocorti.ch/docs/ethz_hints.html#vpn)

* GPS: it takes a very long time to perform a cold start (get the
initial status from an unknown position)

* Office: I never though that I would have used it but I was able to
write a simple letter send it to a fax gateway and the recipient told
me it was nice and seemed real (i.e., made with a "real" word
processor :-)

* Radio: worse interface ever

* Multimedia: I used it as an MP3 and video player without problems

* Camera: don't really know. Never used.

* Sync: crappy, whole day events are marked as event from 00 to 24
filling you whole day (week view is useless, in my case everything is
always marked as busy due to the whole day events). I use a Mac but a
collegue with a Windows machine syncing with Outlook/Exchange has the
very same problem

If you need more info just ask :-)

Matteo

Many thanks for the response.

Are you, by any chance, an ex-Psion user? The Psions, including the
Revo, had a keyboard that was impossibly small--and yet one could really
type on it, using three fingers of each hand. I don't know how they did
it and suspect magic, but I've been hoping that the E90 will be similar.

How do you do the syncing? I have a Mac too.

Have you used it online with EDGE? As far as I can tell, the 3G
connection won't work in the U.S., where I am, and I haven't been able
to learn anything about plans for a U.S. model. My Nokia 9300 connects
with EDGE and is very slow, but I'm not sure if that's due to connection
speed or processor speed, and the E90 has a much faster processor.

As you see, I am doing so. What I most want to know is whether Nokia is
bringing out a version that does UMTS on U.S. frequencies sometime in
the next few months, but I don't suppose you are likely to know that.

Yes, I had a Series 5. The Series 5 keyboard as far as I remember was
better.

Synchronization works like a charm (if you don't consider the whole
day events problem).
* Calendar and Addressbook with iSync
* Music (iTunes), Pictures (iPhoto) and so on with the Nokia
Multimedia Transfer tool

Nokia Maps and Nokia Software Updater are not available for the Mac (I
use Parallels for these two)

No, I mostly use the WLAN and sometimes GPRS or UMTS but since the
prices for data transfers in Switzerland are outrageous
I never used it much :-)

Not really :-)
