Default DivX Mobile Player vs. Core Player; direct comparison

* DivX Mobile Player 0.90 released; a direct comparison to Core Player?
*

The DivX folks '*have just released*'
(http://www.symbian-freak.com/forum/v...ic.php?t=19019) a new (0.90)
beta of their free (!) DivX / XviD player DivX Mobile Player for Windows
Mobile and Symbian (note that while they state there's no 0.90 for the
latter, only 0.89, the internal version number does state it's too
0.90).

Note that '*you'll need to register*'
(http://labs.divx.com/user/register) yourself in order to be able to
access the app; after this, click the URL that comes in the e-mail,
change your password and, then, go '*HERE*'
(http://labs.divx.com/MobileDownload) to directly access the downloads.
Back in the pre-1.2.0 CorePlayer times, several Symbian people used to
state '*CorePlayer*'
(http://www.symbian-freak.com/news/00...yer_update.htm) was
definitely inferior to this application. This is why I was extremely
interested in the results of my tests. '*CorePlayer 1.2+*'
(o+... .. .

A full DivX movie from alt.binaries.movies.divx is between 730MB to 1.5GB
in size when posted. This sure eats up memory card space on phones,
tablets, etc. when all that resolution isn't really necessary on such
tiny screens.

There's a freeware JAVA solution that's ported to Linux, OSX and Win32
that reduces this size down by 50-70% and still making a beautiful tiny
picture with full stereo sound. The resultant movies use FAR less
resources to produce the movie WITHOUT all the stuttering from the poor,
overburdened little CPU also trying to be a phone.

For the 800 x 480 N800 Linux tablet screen, I'm using the setting of
UNCHECKING the N770 Optimize checkbox, checking "High Quality conversion
(2 passes)" and, because the DivX movies on usenet are ALWAYS way low in
audio gain, check the "AUDIO GAIN" box which optimizes the audio level
for louder, better playing. You can also fool around with the
resolutions, Audio and Video bitrates and whether to include srt file
subtitles or not, great for foreign language films.

If your phone is stuttering, lower the video bitrate and audio bitrate.
I'm getting beautiful movies on "N800 High Quality (400x240)" video
resolution on the tablet screen. That's 512Kbps video and 64Kbps stereo.
On a smaller phone screen you might want to use the 770 video cropping
that's default checked when you boot this JAVA app and try it. There's
lots of different combinations to test to find what suits your phone
best.

Do not become alarmed when booting this JAVA app results in Windows
command line box coming up first to run the Java runtime. That's normal
and not dangerous. This app is very fast, but consumes VAST processing
resources to do the conversion so it's best to drag and drop a bunch of
movies over to the app and let it convert movies while you sleep or are
not using the PC it's running on.....

I think this will cure your stuttering problem trying to render movies
way bigger than you have screen for.....(c;

Click the DOWNLOAD to go to the download page. Click on your fav OS.
The Windows is an easy setup.exe file. OSX and Linux are zip files.
This program is NOT made for the tablets or phones....It's for your
desktop computer.
