How is microSD memory named?

Hello,

The Nokia phone with microSD slot has the ability to name the plugged-in
microSD memory chip. I would like to know how is the name written, if the
name is written on the chip itself, or on the phone. Thank you.

Just guessing here, but I think it must be on the chip. The reason I say
this is because when I view the chip in my card reader it keeps the same
name as it does in the phone.
