Need help urgently: Interfacing a Nokia 3310 for Automated Meter Reading system

Hello everybody,

I have fot a project in my finla year B.Tech course that requires me to
design a H/W and S/W so that domestic and industrial energy meter
redings can be sent via SMS thru any reliable GSM operator.

1) Could anyone help me with the links from where I can get the
required materials.
2) Could anyone tell me which phone would be the most cost effective to
use?
3) I hav a spare Nokia 3310 and i stay at Sambalpur, Orissa. Can anyone
tell me where to get a data cable (M bus/ F bus) from?

Sorry, can't help with your direct questions but there is an American
company that markets a device called "Symbol" - it's a Pocket PC with
GSM facility - that some UK energy suppliers use to enter and uplink
meter readings. Maybe they can be of help to you.
