The Best Buy phone store in Northwoods Mall, North Charleston, SC, had
one sitting with other sellphone hobbled netbooks that had never been
turned on because they couldn't find the power supply and the display
shelf has no AC power outlets at all....not a great sales effort, but
typical Best Buy...

The battery pack was in it, so stupid me just presses the power
button...(c;]

It lit up but didn't boot. Vista7 started the initial boot question and
answer long-drawn-out first boot. I WAS a nice guy and told them the
password was set to "password" before I just left, totally ignored by
the minimum wage employees.

I set up Vista7 to BestBuy password "password" and let everything else
in Tiny Vista7 go to default. It finally stopped asking questions and
started installing the OS. It must have been installing the OS from a
floppy disk inside somewhere. It went ON AND ON AND ON AND ON....Lunch
was gonna be late if I stuck around! I did...it's new.

While Tiny Vista7 was doing its thing without telling us anything about
what it was loading and decoding, I started to look around this new unit
as it's the first I've laid my hot little grimy hands on. The box feels
like aluminum, sort of. How do you get 2400 Mhz, 850 Mhz, 1900 Mhz out
of an aluminum shielded box? It has no antennas sticking out of it. It
can't be aluminum. It can't be metal. RF has to flow through it,
right?

NUMERO UNO in the disappointment department was the TOTALLY GLOSSY,
glare-reflecting screen. You're NOT going to watch the Nokia netbook in
the park unless you bring a burka to hide under with it so you can see
the picture. Be sure to bring the burka to any well-lit restaurants,
classrooms, shops, malls, or anyplace else except your darkened computer
room where you watch the other stupid glossy mistakes you've acquired.
The picture is unwatchable in light....worse in bright light. Idiots!

There is a useless HDMI port in the left side with the USB ports INSTEAD
OF YOUR WIFI ETHERNET PORT YOU WANT! This is my first indication some
sellphone company has something to do with this device.....rather than,
like Verizon's netbook, leaving a hole where the Ethernet jack is
SUPPOSED to be, Nokia settled their stomachs swapping it out for the TV
jack noone will use. I'm sure the lack of Ethernet connection isn't the
last hobbleware, but didn't have much time left after the initial
install of Tiny Vista7, Sellphone Edition. Time will tell what else is
missing.

The case is like a thick Mac Air with a black plastic spacer with ports
on it.

The netbook is the same old netbook everybody else has. It has onboard
Intel video, same touchscreen software, same Realtek audio as my Samsung
NC10.

Audio....what audio?! Just like the rest of the netbooks, the Nokia
internal audio is just as useless as the rest of them. It's tinny, low
volume, poorly placed somewhere up under the keyboard from the sound of
it and sounds just horrible. I recommend Radio Shack Accurian folding
speaker/amp, Cat #40-159 plugged into the earphone jack so you can hear
whatever it is playing on the netbooks....including this one! The
Accurian was on sale for $10 for a month, but has re-inflated to $30,
again, at any Radio Shack. It has a much more decent, much LOUDER sound
so you don't have to glue your ear to the keyboard to listen to what
sounds like Edison's first record. Just like Samsung, a major audio
manufacturer, Nokia has audio engineers buried away in the phone
division that can make this box sound like a Bose. Too bad they didn't
find them before production. Just like my Samsung NC10, this thing
sounds just AWFUL! Maybe they're trying to promote laptop sales, again.

1GB of RAM won't run XP and its' apps, so, why do they think 1GB is
gonna run Tiny Vista7's bloatware and its' apps any better.
Unfortunately, this is a SELLPHONE. It's all sealed up. There is no
little one-screw door in the bottom to get at the easily-user-
replaceable 1GB RAM board to replace it with the 2GB so it'll run
better. Sorry....you lose. Sure looks nice on the bottom without
COOLING AIR HOLES TO PREVENT OVERHEATING. How do they do that? Where's
the REQUIRED cooling?! It runs Atom Z530 at 1.6Ghz, a tiny bit faster
on more battery than my N270 1.4Ghz NC10. I didn't see any cooling
system....I wanna feel the heat pouring out of a FAN HOLE during the big
DivX movie playing!

It has an accelerometer. Why? It's not a handheld.....

The rest of it looks like a run-of-the-mill netbook...same video, same
touchpad, same keyboard a little smaller than my NC10, netbook.

Now the other problem. It's $US299.00 on a 2-year enslavement to AT&T
on GSM. This week, Verizon has a new comparison I was amazed to see:
http://phones.verizonwireless.com/3g/
I'm supposed to pay a premium price and be forced into a contract for 2
years with the BLUE ZONE coverage on this unauthorized AT&T coverage
map? This isn't a BREW sellphone. This is a COMPUTER with a sellphone
modem you can't swap if it croaks! For $300 to $350 I can buy a REALLY
nice NON GLARE netbook from many manufacturers that DOESN'T come with
servitude and enslavement for the next 2 years to ol' Ma Bell and her
fascinatingly complete 3G data coverage depicted in the BLUE ZONES of
that map! Those "other" netbooks, I can plug ANYBODY'S aircard
into...whoever has the best deal for my area, the best data that works.
I use Cricket in Charleston, SC, on EVDO Rev A that will stream
Livestation video during the chatroom firestorm! You might have a
perfectly good working 3G data stream in the ATT WHITE ZONE, which is
probably somebody's 1X dialup speed demon. Why would you limit yourself
to the 3G IN SERVITUDE AND ENSLAVEMENT to some sellphone contract for
the SAME UNSUBSIDIZED PRICE?!

Sorry, Nokia. I love your N800 Linux tablets, the finest little pocket
computer I ever owned, unhobbled by sellphone companies with open source
Linux software that doesn't bleed the sellphone bill to death. But,
this thing is a big mistake, ESPECIALLY tied to a USA GSM carrier like
ATT or Tmobile. Maybe better luck next time...

Shhhh...don't tell ATT. My Nokia N800 has been playing cowboy music
from KSEY in Seymour, TX, Cowboy Country the whole time I've been typing
this on UNLIMITED Cricket Cellular via my Cradlepoint CTR-350 cellular
wifi router!.....yeeehaw!

5GB a month or $1.99/MB my ass!
