Orange 6230 - can it be "Unbranded"?

I gave this to my wife, I know she doesn't use it much, it goes through the
battery like crazy. There is a Voda sim card in it now, but I think the
Orange branding is doing it, like it's permanently searching for Orange.

Perhaps you're right, but i believe that branding doesn't affect. How many
hours the phone is stand by mode?

What do you actually mean by "permanently searching for Orange"? Is the
phone SIM locked to Orange, does it provide service at all with a Vodafone
SIM card? If it is SIM locked to Orange, the phone should indicate that when
powered on with a Voda SIM card (SIM card not accepted, don't know what
exactly). If it is SIM locked, you should get it first unlocked by Orange (I
think they should do it after the account has been active sufficiently
long).

The phone was unlocked but the Orange branding remains, i.e. the startup
'flash' screen, also the Orangeworld browser logo but thats struck
through. The Nokia service centre flashed the software but couldn't
remove the Orange branding. I fitted a new battery, thinking it could be
the old battery was knackered, but it doesn't last any longer - only a
couple of days - with very little use!
BTW, the voda sim works fine...
Is ther any software to completely clear the phone/reflash it?

Perhaps this was not mentioned but operator branding is independent from the
SIM lock feature (even if they normally go along, a subsidised phone from
the operator is SIM locked and operator branded). Actually odd that there is
no requirement to allow the phone owner to get rid of operator branding once
the SIM lock has been removed.

I'm afraid operator branding cannot be removed with any official tools.
Service centres probably have the option to flash a different SW package but
normally are not allowed to do that. Perhaps you should insist the service
centre doing this with the argument that the operator agreement has ceased,
as it is not SIM locked any more.

Still I cannot see why the phone would consume that much power and I don't
see this operator branding having any effect on idle power consumption.
Sounds like the phone is physically faulty.

I don't know if Oxygen or Logomanager might help with removing branding but
both bits of software are worth looking at, as is asking questions directly
to them. As to power use, are you in a low signal reception area?

Having the 'phone reflashed by Nokia might have just upgraded the firmware
with Orange branding, hence the bits remaining that you want shut of. They
usually won't reflash a 'phoe to a virgin Nokia model. If you can edit the
browser settings to those required of Vodafone then try installing the
settings. It shouldn't be too hard to find or receive the settings from
Vodafone.
