Default Seems like it's difficult to contact Nokia

I will use their 1-888-226-6542 number in the morning.
(which was difficult to find)

I really want to dump this device.

If I don't ge at good response, I will return the e71.

I'm having trouble down loading MP3 files to the phone.

I understand Apple and blackberry have good help lines.

Maybe Nokia should stick to making winter ca/light trucr tires.

I'm so far very unimpressed with the conectivity of the e71.

I have an N86 which works very well for what you want to do.

The E71 is a "business" mobile.

I have an N79. No trouble at all downloading 500 MP3's, not only that it
put them in cetegories by genre, composer and artist etc. wothout even being
asked!

N79 does in order of frequency : -

FM (send and receive); GSM900; GPS ; GSM1800; UMTS; Wi-Fi (2G4Hz) &
Bluetooth
plus micro USB2 and can output composite video.

Show me a phone with more connectivity...

I wrote that note very late or early while having trouble getting the
unit to do what I wanted.

I certainly don't want anything apple.

I drive with Nokian Hakkapeliitta.
The best.

What was the trouble you had with transferring MP3s?
I have an N82, and a colleague recently got the E71- both have identical
operating systems and the music player is the same.

This is my first smart Phone.
Everything is new.

I couldn't connect the OVI program to the unit.
It wouldn't link, so I can't transfer my songs from there. (So far, I
didn't try again)

I read somebodies post (on this newsgroup) about OVI being trouble and
they wouldn't use it unless it was with a throw away computer or
something to that effect.

Then when I did manage to get songs on the unit using mass storage,
they wouldn't play because I hadn't allowed the Unit ( e71) to convert
them to aac (?) files.

Just very frustrating, then I searched for a 1-800 help line and that
wasn't easy to find.

I was mad and vented.

I did like the response I got telling me the Unit had about the best
conectivity possible and everthing seemed better in the Morning.

I will now start to ask questions.

I'm hooked up with Telus in Canada.

Ah I see the problem now. Ovi Suite is totally crappy, the regular PC
Suite is far better- so that would've ruined your first impression already.
What format were the songs? Nokia phones play MP3s quite well without
converting anything- but if you have songs in Windows Media (WMA/WMV
format) you'll have to convert them.
Alternately, you can try Coreplayer, a media player for phones that
supports any format you can throw at it. It's commercial software though
so you'll have to buy it (from coreplayer.com).
AAC is a high definition audio format that's popular with Apple.Nokia's
built in music conversion software converts things to AAC by default,
but that can be changed.

It seems, if i can remember last week, that my e71 didn't play Mp3's
I was asked at the time of transfer if I wanted to convert.

Interesting, I don't want to convert.
I brought the songs in by dragging and dropping into the phone icon in
PC Suite.

Very good to know his phone has the most connectivitey.

Nokia is the worlds largest phone maker.

I was tempted to go black berry, but after reading, this phone had
some advantages at half the price when buying without a contract.

I imagine I may be be buying at least one smart phone a year from here
on out.

I think you got stuck with a flaky handset..you should get it replaced
if you can. If it doesn't play MP3s, there definitely must be a problem
with the firmware.
My sister had a 5230 XpressMusic with absolutely rotten firmware-it
would reboot randomly, yet other people have the exact same model with
no problems.
The E71 also has gotten pretty good reviews on the net.

It plays my MP3's, I just need to let the E71 convert them first.
Not so bad.

As far as I know so far.
