Default Unlocked but SIM not accepted

I don't suppose anyone still uses anything this old except me, but
I've been using a NOKIA 3310 which was starting to get a bit shaky.

I got a NOKIA 3330 which was locked to Orange.

I got the unlock code, and entered it and got the message that it was
now unrestricted.

But when I put in the SIM it still says "SIM card not accepted".

Other than locking it, what else could make it do this? Was there an
old fix for this sort of thing?

Given that it's presumably more up to date than the 3310, I can't see
why it wouldn't work.

Thanks.

Is the SIM you're trying a 3G SIM? Older phones might not initialize it
properly.

I wouldn't have thought so. I've been using it in a 3310 for several
years. How does one tell?
