Default INFO: Sprint's static IP address

You can get a static IP address for your phone for $3.00 a month.

You can get a static IP address for a MiFi for $10.00 a month.

If you get a static IP address for your phone port 80 is blocked so you
can't use that particular port for hosting a web page. However ports 30, 81
and 8080 all work for hosting a web page on your phone.

Because you pay $7.00 more for a static IP address used by a MiFi I wonder
if they also block port 80 on that Static IP.

One more thing. I found out yesterday that Sprint no longer offers "Phone
as Modem." You can't even order "Phone as Modem" if you phone in your order
anymore. That's too bad because I use that feature a lot.

If you have a smart phone, you can run a tethering application to share the
internet connection.

For a while, sprint wanted $40-60/month for the ability to share the
internet connection with their blessing. **** that. I'm not going to pay
what amounts to $200/hr for a service I use only when traveling.

With a tethering app, sprint doesn't know about the sharing. The one I
currently use has the phone's (palm pre) wifi behave like an access point and
multiple clients can connect simultaniously.

I used a program like that before but mine gave me an adhoc wifi connection
and one of my devices didn't work very well with an adhoc connection. It
would take a long time to connect and then it would shut off the bluetooth
Stereo when it finally connected.

Besides, I don't mind paying the $40.00 a month for "Phone as Modem" but in
reality I'm only paying $25.00 a month more because after I added the phone
as modem to my plan I was allowed to drop my Vision service and that saved
me $15.00 a month.

The palm pre MyTether app used to be adhoc. Back then, I'd use usbnet. Nowadays
it's a lot less buggy and simulates an access point like a champ. Primary
downside is that it's installer isn't friendly to idiots. You have to be
computer savvy to install it.

I use another piece of equipment to get away from using my phone for an
adhoc connection. I use a PHS300.
http://www.cradlepoint.com/phs300/phs300.php

When I use a PHS300 I call it a MiSixteen instead of a MiFi because the
PHS300 claims to support 16 wireless devices. BTW I can connect my phone to
the PHS300 with a wireless connection or a USB cable.

Back to tethering. I used to tether with a USB cable long before Sprint
ever had a "Phone as Modem" option.
