Default Looking to replace my 8300.... Looking for input..

My Sanyo 8300 is physically shot. The hinge is breaking. However I LOVE most
of the features/functions of the 8300.
My previous phone was an Sanyo 5300...
The one before that was a SAMSUNG 3500

After enduring pain and agony with the SAMSUNG 3500(multiple lines on my
account) and the SAMSUNG A460? on another line, I swore I would never but a
SAMSUNG again. Reason: Fringe reception was horrid on 3500s and the A460 was
just a poor phone! But I am seeing good opinions about SAMSUNG in there and
other forums.....

What I must have:
1) Photo capable
2) Good fringe reception

What I would like:
A) Clam shell form factor
Video capable (I really was looking seriously at Katana I/II, but I see
they may not be video capable)
C) Good T9 design
D) Not leave my SPRINT Vision plan

I am toying however with the idea of a Windows Mobile phone. I would like
one that does NOT require me to upgrade to Power Vision, as I have 4 other
phones on a shared plan that is no longer available.

I am shying away from PALM based phones because of negative comments, here
and elsewhere.

Ideally I would like a phone with memory chip for expansion, but that is not
a requirement.

Also, what is the 'season' for new phone announcements....
It would really be horrid to get a phone a another superior phone come out
within a couple months...

I know this sounds like I want the 'son, moon and stars in my own personal
universe', but I have been a Sprint customer for a while and want the BEST,
if I am going to lock in for 2 years.

TIA

If you truly love the 8300, then why not try ebay or some other sorce
for the device?
here is a current link for one that is being sold on ebay, and they
say they have several of them

http://cgi.ebay.com/Sanyo-MM-8300-Sp...QQcmdZViewItem

They even list this phones esn so you can call and make sure it can be
activated.

You are correct in that the Katana's I and II do not have video
capability other than taking pictures, however I notice you
did not include video taking as one of your requirements, so if this
is NOT all that big of an issue for you, the katana II
may be just the thing for you, other than searching ebay and others as
suggested earlier. In regards to fringe coverage
however, I would have to defer to someone elses expertise as I do not
live in a fringe area so it is hard for me to judge.

There are no windows mobile devices that have been released recently
that do not require
powervision. And you really cannot have a powervision device and
still have the vision plan as it typically simply will not work
at all with just the vision, IF the system will even allow the device
and vision to co-exist without forcing the agent to
make a change in order to save the device change.

New devices are released all throughout the year, so there really is
not a 'season' so to speak,
but most carriers seem to release more devices around the october-
november range to build interest just
before christmas.
