Lucifers Minions seek Bailout
"As part of their lobbying campaign to win new business, non-U.S.
companies are trumpeting how their work in the United States will help
American economic prospects at a time of increased competition from
countries like China.
"We have a clear role to play in the renewed emphasis on science and
technology through the strength of Bell Labs, our research arm," said
Regine Coqueran, a spokeswoman for Alcatel-Lucent, a maker of
telecommunications equipment based in Paris.
Despite the rapidly increasing chatter about the threat of trade
protectionism, many non-U.S. businesses are gearing up to take a piece
of the administration's huge stimulus investment. Some are hiring new
staff in the United States. Others - from Japan, Germany, France and
South Korea - are building new American factories to make solar cells,
lithium batteries, turbines or subway trains. "
