Heh, heh. Yes, I notice that the "official" america.htc.com site returns an error message, and htcamerica.com still has 2.09. Sneaky of Sprint to allow us early adapters to beta test before the full release.

Thanks for the post Bob and the information that it was on HTCs webste by LAMARCOMM.

HTC has done a lot of changes to their site so it took a little looking for it. I download my ROM from there and installed it just about an hour ago.

It looks good so far. The GPS works with Google Maps for Mobile and my Slingbox for Mobile still works. I will get around to re-installing my other software later and see how that all works.

I really like being able to shut down program by just holding the 'X. a little longer than normal.

I like having the "Task Manager" in the top right hand corner of the Today screen.

So far the upgrade was worth the wait.

But it *still* has the problem with the "Backlight" not going *off* by
itself. You can use the "Power" applet to turn the display completely off
in 30 seconds but I don't want that.

BTW if you set your brightness for the bottom level the "backlight" will not
get any dimmer when it reaches the time you have it set to go *off* at.

===

FYI with the old ROM there was one program I never managed to get installed
on my Mogul. With the "New" ROM that program installed and runs just fine
so they fixed one bug I saw with it but they left the "Backlight bug" in
there.

But, I still like having the "Task Manager" on the "Today" screen and the
fact that not only does the GPS work but it works better than I thought it
would.

Thank you everyone for posting the messages. I upgraded yesterday and
see a noticeable difference in data performance.

My only question is what exactly was fixed with regards to the GPS. I
have a Bluetooth GPS that worked just fine before the upgrade, and it
still works fine now. Was this not the case for everyone?

I just answered my own question. I ran Google Maps without connecting
to my Bluetooth GPS and just enabled GPS. Within seconds it centered
right on my house...and I'm inside with no view of the sky. Pretty
impressive!

You do realize the Mogul has a built-in internal GPS, right?

What was "fixed" is now you can use the internal GPS INSTEAD of lugging a
separate BT GPS around.

I did know that the Mogul has a GPS, but the manual implies it's
strictly for E911 services. So far, the Google Maps application seems
to be the only one I can find that uses the internal capability for
other than this service.

I've specifically been trying to find something that will graphically
display raw GPS data (heading, speed, altitude, etc.) and does not
require a data connection. I've specifically tried VisualGPSce (link
below) but with no success. It appears to be looking for a GPS via
serial connection and doesn't recognize the internal one. Any ideas?

True but Sprint supposedly "unlocked it" in the last firmware update.

Generally Google Maps for WinMo uses the WinMo GPS Intermediate Driver, so
any app that can access that (Windows Live Search, Navizon, etc.) SHOULD be
able to access that.

No ideas from me, I'm afraid, unless you can set the GPS driver to a
virtual port and VGPS can make use of it...

It IS a serial-connected GPS. Look for it on COM4 with baud rate 4800bps.
Any program that works with external GPS will work with internal one,
although some may require "priming" it first. See
http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=17032 for more info.

Thanks for the URL.

The COM4 is necessary but I've seen "Google Maps for Mobile" work with any
baudrate setting and since I needed COM4 to get PDANET to work I put my
External GPS on COM0 and things still work.

Hey, since we are posting about the Mogul I have a quick story. To make a
long story short I wanted to show someone that owns an iPhone something he
could not do with an iPhone. So I showed him that I can use my laptop to
play the audio from my Mogul via BT Stereo. (note: iPhone only has BT
hands-free and not BT Stereo)

Why would you use PDANet if you can use Internet Sharing which incurs no
overhead, becomes a network adapter (does not using serial protocol) and
allows you to get calls without losing connection, and is FREE to boot? All
you have to do is 1 registry edit and you're home free as long as you have
Active Sync on the computer.

"if you can use?" That is the key phrase.

Microsoft does not allow you to use "Internet Sharing" to go from a
PPC/phone with fast internet to a PPC/phone with slow internet. They force
you to use BT DUN like PDANET has for that and there are times when I want
to do that.

However, you can use "Internet Sharing" via "Bluetooth PAN" to get the
internet from a Mogul to an iPAQ 210 with no internet of it's own but I
don't know who gets the credit for that.

Plus, I have not found a way to automatically start "Internet Sharing" or to
automatically connect to a device running "Internet Sharing." However with
BT DUN like what PDANET provides things can be "Turnkey" where all you have
to do is turn on the power.
