Did you know that you have no choice but to use iTunes to do
*anything* to you iPhone annd that when all is done you STILL have an
Apple and have to deal with them? Only?

A damn shame compared to Android....

I am a highly informed former iPhone user and you can NOT Properly
upkeep an iPhone without iTunes, you can not even activate/register it
without iTunes.

although itunes makes things a lot easier, it's not required, other
than initial activation which can be done at the store when it's
purchased.

It is if you plan to update your phone and if you plan to use it
with approved software.

itunes is not needed to obtain or use any software, approved or not.

updating the firmware does, but that doesn't happen very often and is
not required.
