Default An analysis of Nokia

Interesting analysis about the decline of Nokia. I didn't even realize
how irrelevant they have become.

The short version is that they cannibalized their own Symbian smartphone
sales by announcing their Microsoft alliance in Feb 2011. Meanwhile they
don't have an MS product and WP7 is far less efficient on memory and
other resources whereas Symbian was fine tuned in that area. (I don't
know if it's accurate, just what I'm reading.)

Nokia went from $40 to $6 in a couple of years. The article says the
worst of it hasn't even materialized yet.

Another point raised was that major handset makers like HTC and Motorola
have abandoned their relationship with Microsoft, thus won't be making
WP7 phones. Also, I don't know if that's true or not.

It's a long read but is interesting and probably should be taken with a
grain a salt -- the tone is bitter.

Many grains of salt, it's Android that's made Nokia, RIM and Apple
irrelevent.

If anyone cares, I flashed my HTC HD2 from WinMo 6.5 to Windows Phone 7
and found it, IMHO, a much WORSE os than Windows Phone 6.5. The HTC
HD2 is now running an Android NAND, Windows is gone and will return
only if I sell the phone and the buyer requests Windows Phone 6.5

Apple is irrelevant?

I added an SD card build of Android to my HD2, and left WinMo 6.5 in place,
for a best-of-both-words scenario. I still like the WinMo UI better than
Android (once I obliterated HTC's silly "Sense" overlay, and WinMo has
better file handling, better Office and Exchange support, a better native
email client, and better third party media players than Android. Android
has a better selection of games and can do Netflix and Hulu.

I really like the WP7 UI, but it's so feature limited currently I'm not
ready to give up either WM or Android for it.

Yes or soon will be as far as the iPhone is concerned.

I'd agree with you on email, Android email can be improved from 100%
SUCKS to 99% SUCKS by adding aftermarket apps but it can never be made
to work properly.

I gave up on the dual boot and on the HD2 because of:

1. no 4G.
2. no WiFi calling.

The no 4G isn't much of an issue because my phones run on WiFi or No
Service in most of the areas I go but the WiFi calling is a deal
breaker.

FWIW, I have a MyTouch 4G and XDA developer Motoman234 came up with a
MT4G NAND for the HD2 so that's what I run but.... no WiFi calling so I
use the MT4G almost all the time.

You really stick out your neck with that one! On the other hand, all
those sudden patent suits by Apple against Android handset makers might
be an indication that Jobs & Co. started worrying, too.

I haven't seen an HD2 ROM with WiFi calling yet. I was actually
surprised it hasn't been pulled out into an installable app you could add
to any ROM.

I should really stay current on the developments. Once I found a ROM I
didn't hate, and handled Netflix and Angry Birds ok I just stuck with it.

XDA developers has made some attempts with varying success.

I've found this worthwhile:
