I guess such a combination could save money in terms of store-fronts but
it would not attract any new customers from AT&T or Verizon.
Sprint has the advantage of allowing off-network voice roaming on
Verizon and other CDMA carriers which gives it a network footprint, at
least for voice, that's far larger than T-Mobile's network, but even so,
no one worried about coverage chooses Sprint or T-Mobile.
Yeah, look what a great idea that was for Sprint back when they bought
Nextel. Managing the merger of two different companies with different
technologies turned out to be an unwise idea then, too.
Besides, we've heard this before. Hasn't happened yet (and I hope it
doesn't).

Then again, the reasons for taking over Nextel had little to
do with a standard balance sheet analysis...

At least one person did, after careful research I chose T-Mobile
specifically because it gave me coverage where I need coverage, where
VZW couldn't, AT&T couldn't and Sprint was maybe, maybe not.

But I believe the results would be similar.

I am worried about coverage. It so happens that T-Mobile works
everywhere I need it to work. I understand that T-Mobile has a smaller
footprint than the Big Two, and I'm ok with that.

Coverage where needed is much more important than the total footprint.
Coverage where needed is what VZW was unable to provide me, I heard "We
know there's a hole there, we're working on it!" for many years but
since my biggest problem is in California where the state religion is
NIMBY it became obvious they were not going to be able to add any
towers/antennas to fill the hole.
NOTE: I was happy with VZW, CS was OK, phones were OK but their failure
to provide coverage led me to investigate other carriers and that's the
only reason I switched. T-Mo gives me more minutes/month for the same
price than did VZW but that's of no importance since I never used 1/2
my allowed minutes on VZW. T-Mo is $5.00/mo cheaper but that's just
about 1 gallon of gas in a few more months... <sigh>

Just curious where you live? Out here, Verizon has the best coverage.
It's crappy CS and lies that caused me to switch.

I'm in Phoenix, AZ and VZW coverage is fine here. I visit my sister in
San Marcos, Calif. twice a year and VZW has a hole about 3 blocks in
size that includes her house.
My house is in a T-Mo dead spot for data but who cares? I have a land
line and WiFi so no problem. T-Mo works fine at my sister's house but
I installed a wireless router there so even if it didn't I'd be OK.
I need phone service at only 4 places:
85018 = Me
92078 = Sister
45152 = Son
87015 = Daughter
No carrier works at all of 'em except T-Mo, thanks to UMA or WiFi
calling (if needed.)

A few years back when we were considering switching from T-Mo, I asked
at a place that sells the lot. I asked, "Who has the best coverage?"
"Where," he asked. I named this general area. He asked "Where in <this
general area>?" I named the specific community within this area. "Where
in <the community I named>?"
IOW, all carriers have dead spots. In my windowless basement den moving
two feet can make the difference between usable signal and no signal.
