Let's cut the bullshit a little......
These reports, and Google is loaded with them, is based upon a study by
Gfk Marketing.
The report is here:
http://www.gfkjpn.co.jp/update_file/pdf/162.pdf
On pdf page 35, at the end of the mobile phone data, it says:
"Apple entered the handset market in July 2008; its iPhone 3G captured a
13% market share in the debuting week with its 16GB and 8GB models; some
customers even started to form a line in front of an Apple Store three
days before the launch date. Even after the iPhone hoopla died down in
August, it continued to generate constant sales over an unusually long
period of time in a marketwhere the life cycle of handsets is extremely
short. As of December 2008, smartphones1)led by iPhone accounted for
only 7% of the total unit sales of mobile phones in Japan. This will
change when makers bring more smart phone models to the market.
However, smart phones face a challenge to increase their sales in the
consumer market. Few smart phones currently on the market have One-
segDTV tuners and FeliCa, both of which are highly demanded by
customers. Smart phones must attract more broader customer base to go
through a tough time expected in 2009, by incorporating these customer-
requested key features and positioning itself as a new segment in the
consumer market. On the other hand, smart phones with options for
customizing their functionality to meet specific customer needs are
expected to attract corporate customers. Business customers account for
an estimated 10 to 12% of the 100 million total subscribers of mobile
phones today and the potential business customer base would even reach
30 million accounts. The corporate market, often dubbed as the last
frontier, will become the most important market for smart phones in
2009."
Now, as usual, we've replaced "smartphones" with "phones" in all the
iPhone bullshit to make it look like the greatest thing since sliced
bread. It may be the best selling SMARTPHONE. As you can see from the
main webpage's GRAPHS, Japanese bought 37,400,000 PHONES in Q1-2009. A
quick peek at GRAPH 2, on the next page of the pdf, shows you how
totally insignificant smartphone sales are to PHONE sales in Japan,
barely coming off the bottom of the graph, where iPhone is probably
king.
Why do you guys swallow this bullshit so easily?......
Now let's explore the REAL graph on page 37.....(sigh)
Just above Graph 5 it says, and I quote under fair use:
"Apple held a 1% share in the total handset market, and it still
maintained a 2% share in the total market in December 2008. This is
consistent with Apple’s stated goal of capturing a 1% share in the
global mobile phone market. Therefore, its performance in Japan was
nothing to be ashamed of. On the contrary, having gained a 1% share with
a smart phone alone in the total mobile phone market was no mean feat.
If the iPhone has more applications and becomes more customizable, it is
expected to generate continuously steady sales. Moreover, if it succeeds
in attracting business customers, it will capture an even higher market
share."
Look at 2008...see that tiny thin orange line at the top of the graph
dominated by SHARP, Panasonic, Fujitsu, NEC, Toshiba, Sony-Ericsson,
Kyocera, Casio?!, Sanyo, etc. etc. Hell, CASIO sold lots more phones in
Japan than Apple did! Sharp is the BIG GUN with 23% market share....

SET BULLSHIT OFF
SET REALITY ON
