The video says $69/mo, but I guess they have to give the resellers the $10
they promised them for life....(c;]

Slip of the tongue?

http://www.zer01mobile.com/coverage.php

Wonder who's system map this represents? Sure is awful blue in the East
where I live. Tmobile or ATT or both??

Gee my ears get hot when someone says "TRULY UNLIMITED DATA with no AUP" in
the same webpage as "unlimited tethering" and "unlimited voice/text/long
distance"....

Number portability and no contracts...most interesting way away from The
Borg....

Wouldn't it be a kick in the teeth if these boys on GSM were the way away
from ATT for iPhones! UNLIMITED data/voice/text $80/mo!

That's a pretty tall feature set!

"• Anonymous Call Authentication - Avoid automated anonymous calls by
making anonymous callers enter a series of numbers to complete their
call to you."

Anyone got this feature, now? I've never seen it. Great idea to foil
the autospammers. Same idea as putting your zip code into the credit
card gas pump.

Wonder if they can deliver all this?! They're very cagey about what
phones they sell and how much, which I assume is retail + $30 conn fee.

You can already get unlimited data/voice/text for about $60/month, just
not easily, and not without violating the T.O.S. of the carriers.

Do the Sidekick workaround on T-Mobile, and you have unlimited data for
$1 day.

Combine Alltel prepaid "Pay Per Day" (with text messaging and "favorite
number" as your two feature choices) with Google Voice, and you have
unlimited voice and texts for 75 cents per day.

So for $1.75/day plus taxes, fees, etc. you've got unlimited everything,
though as someone else pointed out, the voice quality may leave
something to be desired, and you're violating both Alltel and T-Mobile's
terms of service, and you're carrying around two devices.

That map is the AT&T postpaid service map, which includes a lot of
non-AT&T areas.

Everything on their web site points to a start-up company that actually
has no customers and no product. They sell only through MVNOs and they
have no MVNOs signed up.

The carriers that Zer01 plan to buy bandwidth from will surely not allow
this to happen. AT&T isn't going to destroy their own business model.
BTW Zer01 will work only on GSM WinMO devices.

No, Zer01 was going to launch the service themselves but chickened out a
few months ago and decided to wholesale it to others. The only "takers"
they've wrangled so far are these Buzzirk Mobile clowns.

"Buzzirk" is part of Globalverge.com, a pyramid scheme company that also
sells "Atmospheric Water Producers" that "create pure water from thin
air." Try not to notice that the $2000 "producer" strongly resembles a
Sears room dehumidifier...

It's AT&T's postpaid data coverage map.

Sure, because AT&T will resell unlimited, unrestricted data to a pyramid
scam outfit and not their own users? If you believe that, I have an
Atmospheric Water Producer you might be interested in!

Sorry to follow up on my own post, but I just got my invite to Google
Voice today and I activated it and started using it. So far, the calls
I've made with it have had excellent quality, indistinguishable from
normal landline calls.

They had a very good selection of phone numbers available. Their
international rates are a little bit higher than companies like TalkLoop
and OneSuite.

The point being if this VoIP-over-gsm carrier works, none of the hacking
and workarounds will be possible and you won't be the target of the current
company's compliance department looking to screw you.

It's gonna be a helluva year if this stuff is true, not some scam.

But it's not true. Unless you're willing to spend tons of money building
out your own network, you're going to be reselling one of the incumbent
carriers.

I remember a couple of other companies that started like that. We
called one of them Cellular One and the other 360 Communications, here.
I was Cellular One's 3rd sale in Charleston, SC, a carphone to replace
my IMTS "Carphone" on 152 Mhz. They didn't have any customers to speak
of on that day. It sure loaded up quickly soon after that...(c;]

Well, that would be fine if these "carriers" were the network companies,
themselves, which they are not. ATTWS, I doubt, owns the network it
uses. Verizon doesn't, it's another company that does only networking
and transmissions. Verizon might own it, though. I think it's called
"Cellular Partners, LLC"...something like that.

Yes, it's just like using Skype over the sellphone's data network, which
works first class for me on Alltel EVDO Rev 0. The difference is,
Zer01's WinMo software reprograms the phone to act like a sellphone, but
over their VoIP network via the data link. This will do on GSM what my
Netgear Skype Phone does on my wifi network....except, of course, be
fully mobile the wifi isn't...yet. I was told the phone operates just
as if it were connected to a sellphone voice carrier, except the phone
is connected to the VoIP server and its data control network by the
WinMo background app, which must redirect the audio and shut down the
vocoder to the GSM voice circuits.

What a cool idea! I'm not sure FCC wouldn't take a dim view of a
licensee on the public's airwaves, like Cellular Partners, LLC, picking
and choosing who gets or doesn't get access to the licensed system.
Remember we went through this exclusing trap on DSL before FCC stepped
in and forced Ma Bell to allow other companies to sell DSL service over
the Bell System's DSL circuits? One licensee is the same as the next.
That license gives us control....even with Ma Bell.

Oh, oh....This guy is part of this company:

It's probably ********.....never mind. We'll sit back and see if it
happens, but there's way too much noise at this point.

Damn....too bad it looks like Amway.....

If you're willing to put up with crappy VoIP-over-3G service like our
friends at Buzzirk intend to provide, you could simply buy a WinMo phone on
AT&T using the PDA Personal (data-only) plan for $35/month, install Skype
for WinMo on the phone, and get an unlimited in/out Skype plan for $6/month
or so. Even with cellular taxes and fees you'll be under $50.

Except it doesn't work. I've tried every VoIP software package around for
Windows Mobile, and they all are pretty lackluster. Worse, WinMo phones
have poor battery life, so keeping these beasts powered up, even with the
display off, to _receive_ a VoIP call will just make a bad situation worse.

Call me a skeptic, but I doubt the pack of unknowns behind this venture are
capable of building a better VoIP app for Windows Mobile than Skype can.
Skype's app is about as good as they come for WinMo, and it still sucks, (at
least compared to traditional cellular,) over cellular data.

> It's gonna be a helluva year if this stuff is true, not some scam.

Let's see- they're claiming they're offering "5G data" with 180Mbps
downloads, while reselling AT&T, a 3G provider, offering a theoretical
maximum of 7.2Mbps, and the company's other core businesses are selling
overpriced dehumidifiers as "Atmospheric Water Producers" and an even more
amazingly clever device called "Pow-R-Save" that reduces your electric bill
by simply plugging it in the wall. (The best part is that they claim they
don't know exactly HOW the Pow-R-Save works, because the Taiwanese company
that supplies them refuses to divulge their "trade secrets" but it has
something to do with "capacitors." Apparently no other company has figured
out to crack one open to copy this revolutionary "trade secret.")

Maybe they've added a few capacitors to the 3G WinMo phones they'll be
hawking to convert them to 5G as well...

Anyone naive to believe ANYTHING these clowns say probably also believes
NASA faked the Moon landings...

....ooops...

While I'm convinced this is a big scam, it's possible in theory- the MVNO
could buy data from AT&T wholesale by the byte, (just like typical MVNOs
buy voice airtime by the minute,) and then sell unlimited service plans,
hoping the law of averages protects them.

For every Larry using 25GB, there'd be a me using 250MB. For the MVNO,
this would simply be "buffet restaurant economics"- the skinny people
subsidize the fat guys like me, and the flat-rate pricing is (hopefully)
set at a number that exceeds the average user's cost by the desired amount.

Yes they are. Don't let the "obsolete" names fool you!

Cellco Partnership, LLC, DBA Verizon Wireless. From what I understand,
these are all various shell companies, DBAs, etc. left over from the
olden days when the cell companies were regional, and before they
consolidated. Some of AT&T's network is still "owned" by Southwestern
Bell, PacTel, etc.

Look at a Celco Partnership/VZW SEC filing:
http://www.secinfo.com/dsVQx.zdh.r.htm#Top,
and see just how many little LLCs make up Verizon Wireless!

More like hides it, rather that shuts it down. WinMo 6 has intergrated
VoIP support, so phones can be programmed to use VoIP in addition to, or
instead of, cellular. The dialer can also be "skinned" to look any way
the cellco wants it do. I suspect they'll route 911 calls over cellular
instead of VoIP to take advantage of E911-location.

Except, unfortunately, the cellcos can still choose what MVNOs to do
business with and dictate terms.

If this scam ever launches, it'll be a first in one big way- AFAIK, it'll
be the first AT&T MVNO to offer data at any price!

You don't seem to have a clue about networks or business costs.
Assuming that the wireless network part isn't a network (pretty dumb)
and VZW "owned" all of their own backhaul instead of leasing it how
would that change things? Would it be "free"?

I think it more likely that throttling will be used to level the playing
field.

Retract my statements. This company is a scam of a former fraud artist
now pyramid schemer. It's going nowhere except back to court when it
doesn't materialize and the money vanishes into thin air.
