Default SIM PIN Question for Motorola V195S

I have a Motorola V195S and a T-Mobile plan.

If I go to Setting -> Security -> SIM PIN I see two options: On/Off.
What exactly is this feature about?

Right now, the check mark is in the Off position. If I toggle it to On,
what have I accomplished?

Thanks.

The SIM can be set to request a password when the phone starts up.
This menu toggles whether that happens.
If you do not know what the default SIM PIN is for T-Mobile, do not enable
this or you will be locked out on the next restart (usually this is not
possible without the PIN as the security menu asks for it when you try to
change anything anyway).

Default SIM PIN is 1234 for PIN1, PIN2 (almost never used) is 5678.

Voicemail PIN/password default is last four digits of your phone
number which one should change at the earliest convenience.
