Default Will tmobile unlock phones bought elsewhere?

Has anyone bought a phone elsewhere (e.g. ebay, or from overseas), use it
with t-mobile prepaid, and then ask t-mobile to unlock the phone?

As a matter of policy, T-Mo will only unlock a T-Mo phone. If you but a
T-Mo phone on ebay they'll unlock it if the unlock criteria (length of
service, time since last refill, etc.) are met.

Apparently, T-Mo feels they have no right or obligation to unlock a
device originally locked by another carrier.

Odd. I had VZW unlock an Ebay phone, they made no comment, just walked
me through the procedure.

I've unlocked every T-Mo phone I've had for free w/o ever contacting T-
Mo, don't know why you'd need to do so? I have unlocked Android and
BlackBerry devices, don't know about other T-Mo phones.
