Default Activating Sprint CDMA Treo 650 on Verizon?

Is such a thing possible? I have the non-sim CDMA version of the sprint
treo 650. It was given to me as payment for working on a computer. I love
it as a pda, but I am sick of carrying two phones around. All I want is to
be able to use the phone and send/recieve text messages. Mobile web would
be nice, but is not a requirement. Every time I have called cust serv/tech
support on this I have gotten a runaround with no clear answer.

VZW will not activate phones whose ESN is not in their database. Sprint
phones will not be accepted by VZW.

How does an ESN get into VZW's database? Does this mean that the only
phones that can be used are those originally sold by VZW?

Generally yes, however some phones from US Cellular and AllTel have been
able to be activated by VZW. Sprint phones are software locked, and can
not be used outside of Sprint.

I was not aware of that.

In any event, it would probably be simpler to flash the Sprint phone with
the VZW firmware (if available for that model phone) once the ESN is
approved for activation.

No arguement here, but remember VZW has the last say on what they will
activate. Even with the new rules the phone "must be compatible" with
their network. Sanyo phones from Sprint will be difficult.

Well, one could also use the AllTel or US Cellular flash files. Takes more
effort to get data working though.

Um, not true.

The PDA portion of the phone works just fine. That is why I puchased it.
On my phone however, I opted to turn off internet access with Verizon since
it costs too much. Why pay for two ISPs right?

All I need it for is for the PDA applications and as a phone and it works
great in that regard.

Treo 650 Verizon phones are pretty cheap on ebay now. A fraction of what
Verizon wants to charge you. Mine was only $160. Parts for these are cheap
and plentiful also.

That's actually a good idea. Sell your spint treo on ebay and then buy a vz
treo after the sale. Should go for about $150 or so both in sale and
purchase.
