Default An Alltel cell phone activated by Verizon

I bought a used rzr (V3c) online that had been an Alltel phone. I activated
it on my verizon plan with no problems. It appears to work fine, but the
banner on the phone says Alltel expanded network and the roaming triangle is
flashing. What do I need to do about this?

Nothing. The phone THINKS it wants to be on the SSID of Alltel
(156) but it finds itself on the SSID of VZW, so THINKS it's
roaming on Verizon. If the Verizon PRL allows it to roam onto
Alltel, the light will go to home status. Verizon's PRL doesn't
allow Alltel....but Alltel's allows Verizon in many markets,
especially outside the South.

If it's working you got a great deal.....with no Verizon funny
business!...(c;

Exactly Larry. No funny business at all. Lots more features than my VZW
rzr. Why did I give this to my wife? Would it help to change the PRL?

To keep from raising a bunch of warning flags at the VZW switch,
them seeing a phone on YOUR account running on Alltel they KNOW
it's not supposed to do...in the VZW DEAD ZONES...you better try
to update its PRL on VZW. It'll delete roaming onto Alltel and
Sprint, which Alltel has EXPANDED, not deleted, recently, but if
it starts going "home" to Alltel, I'm sure some VZW bean counter
is going to ask "***?!" and may CHARGE you roaming charges.

Isn't it nice to see ALL the features running when you want?...
(c;

Sorry, it doesn't do Vcast. I'm sure you're all broken up over
that, too.

"May?" Probably not. More like "WILL."

Sounds like buying a used Alltel phone on Craig's list or eBay might
be the best way to go if you want a phone that really works with you,
not against you.

I finally got my V710 working pretty good by having a "guy" at a local
computer shop doing some edits. It is really sad that Verizon makes
the very few of theior customers who want to use the features jump
through so many hoops.

It's the Verizon law of supply and demand:

"We have all the supply, so we can demand whatever the $%^# we want."

They know that very few subscribers are going to leave because of
defeatured phones, because most of their subscribers came to Verizon for
coverage that no other carrier is capable of providing.

I dealt with it by doing a SEEM edit. It's great to have all the
capabilities of Motorola Phone Tools working, as well as vibe then Ring
(why on earth they felt compelled to disable vibe then ring is a mystery
to me, as I can't figure out how they might have made any money from
disabling that feature unless they had a way to sell you a "vibe then
ring" ringtone!

It'd be interesting to see what happened with an old PRL on a plan that
doesn't allow any roaming. Unless you're on an old plan like the
original America's Choice, there is no off-extended network roaming
available, and I guess the PRL reflects this.

I've activated a non-Verizon 270c on Verizon with no ill effects, though
it was not Alltel, it was just a generic Motorola phone.

Oh I did that originally as part of registering it with Vzw. Did it again
and still no change. Phone is still working fine, but I'm afraid of a big
surprise when the bill comes.
