And the iPhone fanboy assholes keep posting to VZ and Sprint newsgroups where
they are completely offtopic.

why are they off topic? Someday you too will own an iPhone, it's just a
question of when... so posting info about the iPhone is VERY important
to everyone that owns a Cell Phone of any type.

Apple will lovingly control this entire space within 10 years, so get
used to high quality phones from Apple. The iPhone is just the first in
a long series of great internet communicators. (see iPod history)

ps: 1 group penalty for setting your follow up incorrectly. please learn

Well, hm, dumbass... the iPhone is only available on one specific network
in each country in which it's offered...

there are no CDMA iPhones and Sprint and Verizon are both CDMA...

and no, I won't ever own an iPhone. Pretty presumptuous to assume you know
anything all about me or my needs...

but those non-iphone networks will quickly wither away, that is...
unless apple grants them an iphone version to work on their aging
network. plus at&t owns the new 700Mhz spectrum starting next year, say
goodbye to Verizon, Sprint, etc.

so how exactly are you going to communicate with people in 10 years?
sounds like you didn't think your response through.

you fixed your follow up in this response so my educating you has
helped. i've posted to USENET far longer than you, so i know all the
features, so either learn from me or go away.

Verizon got most of the C Block, the "open access" block. AT&T
got a majority of the licenses in the B Block.

of markets. Was not aware of the others.)

Wow! another posting from an APPLE-holic. They cannot see reality...
They worship at the feet of Steve Jobs, and wait for any word from their
'prophet'.

Apple is caught in a viscous cycle. They have tremendously high software
costs, so the put on a slick show for the hardware. Hardware should be
becoming a 'commodity. Cheap and readily available upon which anyone can
develop. Apple is still heading down the road called Proprietary.

Soon Symbian and Android will be open platforms on which all can develop.

Apple products are for people with deep pockets who wish to throw tribute at
the feet of Steve Jobs....

I was an Apple follower when the APPLE II came out. Then I saw quite rapidly
Jobs' little game. Keep changing the platform and the rules of the game to
ensure only he can sell the hardware. Apple III was sort of compatible, but
after that all of the other upgrades were an architecture change.

In addition, APPLE plays the 'gotcha' game across their platforms with
'nickel/dime' fees for certain updates, when other manufacturers just push
them out.

I hear you, and I've always born resentment against Apple for
the same reason. But now there's a catch.

Symbian, et al are one thing, but in terms of dominant
platforms, look at the alternative.

I need to purchase a new computer soon. Vista? Please.

A friend of mine is hell bent on going Linux all the way from
here on, citing the same concerns you express. But I had to wish him
luck on spending two days tracking down a driver so that he can print
a page of text.

Regarding compatibility, the Intel-based Macs (and tellingly,
Intel recently announced that it would not - not ever - introduce
Vista into their workplace) can run Windows OS's faster than the
average PC. With the addition of VMWare Fusion one can run any Windows
application seamlessly within Mac OSX 10.5.

Your proprietary argument holds, considering that the converse
isn't true - you can't run OSX on a Windows box. But all things
considered, it's hard to care.

I'm struggling with this issue because I resent Apple for the
same reasons you describe. But my home office has an iMac and a PC
(someone else primarily uses the Mac), and I've had a chance to work
on the iMac recently. The truth of the matter is that by getting
certain concerns out of the way, the Mac OS spotlights productivity
very effectively.
