Default Any idea how to disconnect Verizon DSL internet service?

I called Verizon - but after telling to machine I want to disconnect
the service, I was getting a message that are too many callers and
machine hang up on me.
So I guess I will stay with Verizon forever?
Did anyone succeed in disconnecting from Verizon?

Zalek

Presuming you are aware this is the cellular group, and most here are
not/were not/could never be Verizon DSL customers, the following comes
to mind.

1. Call back at another time.
2. When asked what you want to do, try saying "operator" or pressing
zero to get a live person.
3. If forced to use the automated system, tell it you want to make a
change to your service (instead of disconnecting), and hope it gets
you to a live person.
4. Is there no option to discontinue service by logging into your
online account?

Unplug the modem and take it with you TO THE VERIZON MAIN OFFICE!

They're all much nicer when you're standing in PUNCHING RANGE at any
carrier....(c;

--------------------------------------------------------------------

If you're not happy, and want to have a little fun to remember you by,
drop by a thrift shop and buy a 1200 baud phone modem with the same
color plastic case for $1. Beat it into unrecognizable pieces with a
hammer on the patio then sweep it into a big paper shopping bag to make
it look big.

Take the bag to the office, but have their modem in your pocket for
after when you "get their attention".

At the "service center", a place not a state, dump the pieces from the
bag out over their counter so it scatters and say in a loud voice, "I
tried to cancel your service over the damned phone but your computer
wouldn't take the call, so I brought your modem back to cancel my
service NOW!"

Before the cops arrive because she pushed the "irate customer button"
under the desk on the floor, setting off the security alarms, hand her
the modem and GET A RECEIPT WITH TODAY'S DATE CLEARLY MARKED for the
returned real modem. Don't give them the chance to add on more charges
to your bill and mail them to you....PAY UP IN FULL RIGHT NOW and make
sure they know this is your "final payment", no matter what crap comes
in the mail. Get a receipt for the FINAL PAYMENT, closing the account
for good to show to the nice judge at their trial in small claims court.
When she offers to send you a final bill, REFUSE IT! They're just
looking for a way to move you to the Retention Department for screwing.

Leave your shopping bag as a momento so they'll remember you if you
change your mind, which will move you to the front of the line because
they are now afraid you'll end up on local TV interviewed for the 6PM
news....

Don't wait for the cops....

Uh, Larry, when was the last time you actually *saw* a land line
office where customers could enter? BellSouth shut the Greenville
office down just before the switch from Southern Bell, and Verizon's
Simpsonville office was shut down two or three name changes ago.

Warning to the OP: Larry is a bitter old troll who has delusions of
grandeur. He likes to come off sounding like a big bully, and over
half of his posts are mere bullshit rants. Following Larry's advice
is generally not good for your criminal record. He just likes goading
people into taking actions he doesn't have the balls to do himself.

AT&T doesn't have any anymore. They closed the old Ohio Bell offices in
Cleveland and Columbus long ago, for example.

Verizon, in some areas (including mine), does have Verizon Plus retail
stores with customer service counters where you can get help with your DSL
and landline service. Acting like a horse's ass probably isn't necessary
unless you're Larry and that's how you handle things. You should be able
to go to a CSR at the store and get help.

Verizon Online's main support number is 888-649-9500 (we have this misfortune
of being a Verizon Online DSL customer at work). Try that number, you may have
better luck with it than with whatever number you were trying to call.

The one good piece of advice from him is to get some sort of written record,
if at all possible.

When I worked for a contractor in Florida, he used to pitch hissy fits
in stores (and in the office) from time to time. He came into the
office one morning with a new handheld tape recorder (he would go
through several throughout a year), talking about how he had to act
"crazy" in the store the night before to get them to replace his old
recorder without a receipt. I walked back into my office, and within
30 seconds was back in his office with the receipt, saying, "You know,
if you had asked me for the receipt, I could have saved you the
trouble. It was still under warranty."

I think some people just get off acting that way. I prefer to conduct
myself in a more civilized manner.

Larry - this (may) have been amusing
50 times ago.....

It's now just old - and quite pathetic.

Try again, later!

If you are unable to get through, send Verizon a letter requesting the
disconnect by registered or certified mail with return receipt. Keep a
copy of the letter and the receipt! Don't pay ANY bill for service
after the effective date of the disconnect your requested.

Or instead of all of the drama the OP could simply call back.

Apparently some people don't have a life and need to enter every
situation with both guns blazing. I only turn up the heat when my polite
requests don't get me anywhere.
