No. As of November 14th, all new smartphone activations require a data
plan, regardless of how the phone is acquired. (Meaning it's not a
discount/subsidy thing, but a hard policy. Even if you buy off eBay or pay
full unsubsidized price, you're stuck with at least a $30 data plan.)
There's been a lot of screaming at Howardforums.com over this.
Verizon's supposed "reasoning" is that too many users without data plans
were being hit with outrageous a la carte data charges if they didn't know
how to limit data use on their phones.
Personally, I'd pay full price and activate one on PagePlus before I paid
$45/month for data. WiFi will work, of course, and PP now offers
pay-as-you-go data (expensive, but ok to check to email in a pinch.) |
