Default Apple opening to all operators in all markets on iPhone?

Apple opening to all operators in all markets on iPhone?
Fri, 07/25/2008 - 06:00 Andy Space

Apple may offer the iPhone in all international markets, liberalizing
its distribution of the device to include all carriers, a report
suggests this morning.

Bloomberg is reporting statements to this effect made by the CEO of
Singapore mobile phone carrier, MobileOne. Company boss Neil
Montefiore told media: "I think, before the end of the year we will
be'' carrying the phones in our stores. It will become available in
all markets, with all operators.''

Now, this could simply mean Apple will be offering the device in all
international markets by the end of the year through operators it has
already reached a deal with, or could signal a newly liberal approach.

If the latter, then it's interesting this news emerges as an earlier
report explains Orange will join O2 in offering the iPhone in the UK
before the end of the year. Could these two matters be connected?

Singapore Telecommunications in May it won rights to distribute iPhone
in Singapore, though a release date hasn't yet been confirmed. StarHub
Ltd., also expects to offer the device this year.

That would mean even Larry could have an iPhone on Alltel.

No wait Alltel is now Verizon and Jobs will never let the iPhone be on
Verizon's network as long as he lives.
Yeah I know the CEO of Verison wants him dead.

Sorry Larry.

What beats me is why the Apple Stores have signs that say "no iPhones
today" when I bought a gym iPod for my wife today and saw they had a
cupboard full of phones.

Some one bid $600 on am empty iPhone box on Ebay.

The ones you saw were probably already sold. Many businesses are
buying 500 to several thousand at a time for key employees.
It is a cheap way to keep them happy in tough times.

Doubt it, they were shrinkwrapped boxes in a locked cabinet (not
windowed doors, wooden doors) behind the counter. If they were for
display, why not display them?

This is a very old retailing trick used to keep prices and demand
artificially high by the drooling masses for a period of time.

It's call a "hold back".....

Smart Car USA is doing it now. There are no Smart Cars available from
dealers in the USA.
