Blackberry or PPC Smartphone: which "requires" internet access

I want to buy a Blackberry or PPC Smartphone, but don't want to "have"
to get internet now, but will most likely get it later so want one of
there so I can get full blown internet (version 6, I believe?). Can
someone tell me which phones "require" internet access? I have heard
that some older phones can get internet access, but don't require it,
but I want to make sure it's full blown internet. I want an older
phone (or at least a used one) so I don't need to pay Verizon for a 2
year contract.
