Default Blackberry Storm and BMW bluetooth

I picked up my new 328xi coupe last Thursday only to find that my Storm
would not maintain its bluetooth connection with the car's bluetooth system.
It will make the connection, but it is intermittent and drops often.

The Storm is NOT on BMW's "approved phone" list, though it worked just fine
in my last 325xi.

BMW is disavowing responsibility since the phone is not on their list and
Verizon does not support a fix.

Have any of you had this experience and does anyone know of a patch or fix
for this problem?

Well, now you know WHY the Storm is not on the "approved phone list"!
Get a phone that's on the approved phone list or get a different car.

Excellent, helpful response. And they wonder why internet bandwidth is
becoming scarce.

Have you checked with Verizon to see if there's an update for your
phone? They normally don't tell you about them, you have to ask CS if
there is one and then go to a Verizon store to get it done.

You, of course, have a better answer???

The OP was given a list of phones that had been found to work well in
his new car. He chose to use something else. It doesn't work well so
he complains here????????????

Or am I missing something?

Ya' gotta love this guy. The economy is in the crapper, the president is an
avowed income redistributing socialist who just nominated a racist Latina
for the supreme court...and Beemer Billy here is worried that his
ridiculously expensive cell phone won't talk to his overpriced ride.

You've missed a lot. Clearly you don't pay attention. Though I revile
getting into a name-calling thing with you, it is clear that you suffer from
poor reading comprehension skills and a lack of anything better to do with
your time. I am the OP. There is not a HINT of "complaining" in my
original post. Show me. All I did was state the facts, ALL the facts from
BMW's perspective and Verizon's, and I simply asked if anyone had a
workaround. Show me what you construe as a "complaint". There is none
because I didn't complain. I generally don't complain but I do look for
solutions.

No offense, but you should have taken my tongue-in-cheek response to you and
used it as an opportunity to reflect on your moronic reply. Instead you
posted again and reinforced that you are a moron. I owned the phone FIRST.
It worked just fine in their last model. I don't buy a phone to suit a car,
and I certainly wouldn't choose a $50k car to suit a phone. And I'll bet
that when you go looking to buy a car, you won't check their website first
to see if your phone is on their compatability list, dopey. You didn't read
anything I wrote. You just needed to hear yourself talk, right?

Now that I've gotten into a name-calling thing with this smartass, is there
anyone who might have had a similar experience and discovered a workaround?
That's all I'm asking. DISCLAIMER: No complaints are intended or implied. I
love both the Storm and the car. It would be nice if they worked together,
that's all.

I have the car into BMW service and they're going to try to reflash the
iDrive computer system. If that doesn't work, I will call Verizon and try to
cajole them to connect me to Blackberry, who I'd bet does have a compatible
update that Verizon doesn't support. Btw, yes, the first thing I did was go
to a Verizon store and discuss it with a tech. He confided to me that he
thought it was a Verizon "crippling" (not his word) but he had no fixes and
he apologized.

Thanks for your suggestions though. They are reasonable ones.

Well, put that way, I can see your point. ;-) I guess we should all stop
living our personal lives and kill ourselves now. How did you turn a
Verizon-related question(this is a verizon n.g., isn't it?) into a frickin'
political manifesto? If you're that angry, perhaps you should consider
Revolution, Che.

By the way, here in the NE, a BMW 3-series isn't near the top of the
car-buying list. Perhaps it is in your part of the Ozarks, Clyde.

Thank you. Exactly.

There was a time when you could come to the internet and actually find
answers to questions. Now, it seems, you have every loser who has nothing
else to do posting things just to hear themselves 'talk'. Perhaps there are
some things best left to the 'elite', not for the 'common man', the original
internet being one of them.

Anyway, let's try again. Reminding everyone that this is a VERIZON CELL
PHONE NEWSGROUP, originally meant to discuss Verizon cell phones, let's see
who can come up with an answer to a Verizon cell-phone related problem: the
bluetooth function of my Verizon Storm appears to have compatibility issues
with the bluetooth functionality of my BMW 328. Without implying any blame,
or appearing to be complaining about this relatively insignificant issue
compared to world starvation, has anyone experienced this problem and found
a resolution, perhaps by downloading one of the Blackberry updates for this
phone that have not been Verizon approved?

Allow me to apologize in advance to anyone who is offended by the
shallowness and self-serving nature of this relatively trivial problem
compared to North Korea developing a nuclear weapon. Allow me to qualify
that, in my area of the NE USA, an elitist, or wealthy, person wouldn't be
caught dead in a mere 3-series BMW. They buy those for their kids who just
turned 17 so they can drive themselves to HS. Also, BB Storms can now be had
for "buy one, get one free" from any Verizon store.

For those of you with even less of a life than I have, in lieu of answering
the question directly, you may do one of the following:

1. respond with a witty sarcasm because you think you're more clever than
everyone else who has preceeded you
2. post a spam for some shit you want to sell, particularly one that's
non-Verizon cell phone related
3. post your pet political peeve of the day because you're more open-minded
and all-knowing than everyone else
4. post something about the superiority of the iPhone
5. promote your love of your linux tablet (non-sexual love, that is)
6. stay quiet, keep reading, and possibly learn something new

Out of curiosity, what year was your 325ix? I have 2003 5 series and no
blackberry has ever worked with this car. As I was informed by the BMW
service mgr, the BMW Assist works with blackberries, but the previous
modules don't. My company offered me a BB but I declined it because my
personal Moto 815 (but not 710) was working fine with the car's hand-free
module and I didn't want to give it up.

I've read the rest of your thread, and it seems usenet is becoming a playing
field for all the folks who think they are the smartest people in the world
with their useless responses and criticisms that are not even within the
scope of the OP query. And by the way, rich high school kids don't get 328s,
they get M3s!

Thanks for your understanding response. I really don't understand the
responses of some of the people reading a verizon cell phone newsgroup who
post with such hostility, but I think they're just disappointed in
themselves. I think they have forgotten their purpose and actually have
little to contribute. Shallow little lives, I think.

My 325xi was a 2006. All of the BB's I tried with that car, the Pearl,
Curve, and Storm, worked just fine with it.

Let me just say that BB just today introduced a software version download,
4.7.0.148 (up from .75, the most current version), which appears to be
Verizon supported. That, along with that BMW has agreed to reflash my car's
computer system, just might work to resolve the problem.

For those of you who are interested in verizon cell phone-related
information, I think you'll find the above information on an update useful.
Go to http://na.blackberry.com/eng/update/.

To those of you who have nothing to offer but immature witticisms, keep them
to yourselves. Most of us think you're not that clever.

For those of you interested in this problem, mine apparently has been
solved. The trouble is that two different things happened at the same time
so I can't tell you which really solved the problem: 1. Blackberry sent out
an update from version .75 to .148 which I implemented, and 2. BMW
re-programmed my car's computer while I was at home updating my BB's
software.

Anyway, the bottom line is that now the phone works with the car (and the
car works with the phone).

For those of you who are less shallow than me and are more socially and
politically aware, I now intend to get to work on World Peace. Stay tuned.

Thanks for the update. While personally I have no intentions of buying
either a Blackberry or BMW in the near future, I thank you for authoring
