Default Canceling land line

I have a land line and Verizon DSL. I have no need for my land line
as we both have Verizon cell phones. Last year I talked to a rep and
they told me I could not cancel my land line if I wanted to continue to
have the DSL service.
They did say that they were planning on offering that option in the
furure. My question is: can I now cancel my land line and continue to
have Verizon DSL service?

You just said " ...they told me I could not cancel my land line if I wanted
to continue to have the DSL service."

What part didn't you understand?

Most DSL providers in the US require you to also pay for a landline. If you
live in an area where BellSouth provides local phone service, which is
unlikely if you are currently receiving local phone service from Vzw, you
can buy "naked DSL."

The feds, as a condition of allowing the AT&T/BellSouth merger, require they
sell DSL without requiring a landline in addition.

Cable?

I switched last month from "Premium" DSL. As much as I hate my cable
company, it's a lot faster......

Call Verizon back and tell them you want dry loop DSL.

Sure, sorta. Get a dedicated DSL line from Covad, or from Speakeasy
who resells Covad. Doesn't require an existing phone line.

Geez, $109.95 for 3.0/768. What a bargain!

I am probably going the other direction. The speed on the cable
connection was 768/4000 until our system was integrated into Comcast.
Now it is 360/4000 and more expensive. I can get Verizon DSL which has a
faster upload (768/3000) for $12/month less.

Now that it is the "future" why don't you give them a call and see if it
is possible. Only they can tell you about your specific line.

It isn't as cheap as shared-line DSL. But it is widely available.
Dry-pair DSL isn't, and may not be any cheaper.
