Default Cell Phone Usage and Radiation Its Affect on Users

I did research on cell phone usage and the affects of radiation a few
years ago for my business communications class. I have been in the
cellular retail business for years and it was interesting for me to
research an issue that effects many cell phone users. I know that
cell phones have been used for about 25 years, but have been in heavy
usage for about 10 years. Most products such as cell phones take
years for any real research to affectively take place. I want to
cover a couple of issues with cell phone usage and ways to prevent the
negative effects of radiation for the user.

All cell phones emit some amount of radiation, and that being so, it
makes sense to limit our exposure to it. Ofcourse the most effective
way to do this is to limit your usage of your cell phone. I know most
people have unlimited night and weekends and their free friends list,
but your health is more important than all those free minutes. Second
way is to avoid junk products that are sold in the cell phone
accessories market. The first product that comes to mind is the cell
phone anti-radiation sticker, which is a great concept but junk
product. When this product first came to the US, it was being sold on
every street corner. I would avoid any sticker from China that
promises to black out cell phone radiation. The second product that
comes to mind is the cell phone headset. Most cell phones nowadays
come with a free headset already included in the box. Some of the
reasearch that I did showed that the cell phone user can avoid
radiation by using a headset, but on the other hand some of the
research said the exact opposite. The opposite being that radiation
is actually being funneled into the user's ear when being used. So
this also troubles me maybe more than the cell phone anti-radiation
sticker. One thing that I do still believe in is less usage. If you
are going to use your phone a lot try more sms messages and if your
phone has one, use the speakerphone. Most phones come with a built-in
speakerphone.and using it will help you avoid putting the cell phone
speaker directly to your head. Less radiation directly to the head
the better off you are. Also I think that the newer generation cell
phones are built more efficient emitting less radiation. Of course
each cell phone emits a different amount of radiation, but if anyone
remembers the older brick phones, your head would be hurting after a
20 minute conversation. You know there is radiation coming from your
cell phone when it is about to ring and your televison screen starts
acting up.

My conclusion on this matter is that cell phones haven't been used for
a long enough period by the majority of the US population for there to
be any major health risks discovered due to the usage of cell phones.
Buy a cell phone with a clear loud speaker and use it when not in
public, because we all know how annoying it is to listen to someone
else's phone conversation in public. I would advise everyone out there
to use your cell phone only as needed and avoid too much usage.

Biggest load of hooey I've seen posted in years....except Oxford,
of course...(c;

I'm nearly 62 and have been around INTENSE RF radiation all my
life. I got my ham license in 1957. I was 11. That was when it
started. I've operated megawatt Navy radars, TACAN, HF to UHF
comm equipment. I've operated 10KW AM, 100KW FM and Gigawatt UHF
TV transmitters with Klystron tubes 10' high. I spent years in
huge RF fields on broadcasting, VHF/UHF high powered paging, 2-
way FM radio transmitters. I even glowed blue from the 70
kilowatt pirate radio shortwave transmitter in the belly of an
old Canadian fishing trawler that was supposed to broadcast for a
religious nutcase...before the FCC showed up to confiscate it,
that is.

Now, this is about 50 years of exposure to INTENSE RF radiation
fields. Thousands of hours of sitting at the transmitters in
fields so hot you can't shut off the flourescent lights because
the RF is making them glow, not the power company. The telephone
man refused to go into our basement to fix the phones because he
kept getting RF burns off the phone wires. "You got a dialtone
outside. YOU fix it in this place. I'm not that crazy!", he
would say.

All my parts still work. I can see as well as any 60 year old.
I fathered a few children, that I know of, that came out fine.
I'm too fat, like most Americans, because I sit on my ass typing
on this thing and eat too much. That's not RF's fault, though,
for this discussion.

I still fix transmitters, but mostly for fun, now, near
retirement. My friend Linwood N4LS died when he was 94! His
first job in radio was as an Atwater Kent radio technician in
1924. He was the first Motorola two-way FM dealer in SC! He
also worked for United Airlines putting high powered radio
transmitters at UAL offices so they could talk to their airplanes
IN THE 1930'S! Transmitters in those days didn't even have a
cabinet, much less shielding! He died of old age. He was 94,
you know!

All this panic of SELLphone RF is a HOAX! SELLphones used to
have powerful 3 watt transmitters to connect to towers 10 miles
apart with FM radio (AMPS) clarity. They didn't "fade", like the
let's-go-digital ads always showed. I was the 3rd Cellular One
customer in Charleston, coming over from IMTS "carphones". Then,
SELLular phones took off...Way too many customers had way too few
channels because it was so cheap. 832 channels in a city just
didn't work. What do we do? Well, we put up lots more tiny
cells that only covered a few blocks and took down the tall
antennas that made the 3W car phones work so good. They're still
working good out in the country. Then, we started a campaign to
SCARE the SELLphone users into thinking that bagphone was
cookin' their kids and their brains. People are stupid and
they'll believe anything. They think HIV causes AIDS, even
though half the AIDS patients don't have HIV...a virus NOONE has
ever SEEN and may never have existed! Scared to death,
SELLphoners gave up their 3 watt bagphones for smaller 600
milliwatt (mw)....then even smaller 300 mw flipphones that worked
OK on built out microsystems in cities, but really sucked in the
country. The 300 mw flipphones still used 1 call per channel, so
several digital encoding schemes were invented to increase
channel capacity and revenues, at the expense of fidelity and
distance. The switch to digital was accompanied by another big
"False Flag Operation", like 9/11, with yet an even bigger scare
so power levels could drop to 200mw, then 150mw, now 120mw on
some phones. The phone antennas were reduced to a little loop of
wire inside the plastic cases to lower and prevent good radiation
even further. The phones now work 2-3 miles on 800 Mhz, and 1.5
miles on 1900 Mhz PCS. Per channel mile revenues are way up.
The companies smile......(c;

One of my old paging engineers said, hooking up yet another 500
watt Quintron to some beastly high antennas.......
"POWER is our FRIEND!"
Ever notice how great your old POCSAG pocket pager worked INSIDE
the bowels of a building? You hardly ever missed a page! That
was because it was listening to TEN 500 watt UHF paging
transmitters, SIMULTANEOUSLY! There were no "dead zones" or
shadows with that MUCH RF spraying us all. NOONE DIED from
PAGING RF RADIATION or your local UHF broadcaster running 25
MEGAWATTS from the tower....NOONE.

And if your "radiation" experiment were truthful, you would not have concluded
that an earpiece/headset funnels any radiation into the ear. Granted, it is
true that by using a headset, where a person's body is exposed to radiation does
shift, but the radiation that is of concern here is in the nature of radio
waves, not sound. The radiated area is the waistline, not the head, when a
headset is involved. There's also the matter that the power levels are so low,
one could absorb more of this "radiation" from sunbathing on a clear summer day.
The sun puts off "white" radiation - that is, something on all frequencies,
including radio. Remember that "radio waves" and light are the same thing -
differing only in frequency.
