Default Comcast Data Limits: Both Ways, Or Just Down?

Somebody I know is about to replace their Verizon DSL service
with Comcast cable to get the higher bandwidth.

Although the location is in a place that Comcast would regard as
commercial (and therefore needing a "business" account) he is
going to try to get residential service bc the actual use is
non-commercial.

The "actual use" is a bunch of windsurfers who want to be able to
see an IP camera aimed at the bay so they can decide whether to
bag work and go windsurfing or not.

Hence bandwidth usage will be 99.9% upload.

If he manages to get "residential", is it going to come back to
bite him on the data limits issue?

Using the wonders of 5th-grade arithmetic, I may have answered my
own question....

Assuming the 250-gig limit applies to the sum of up/down use, I
get about 170 kB/s based on a 30-day month and 14 hours of use
per day and no other load on the connection.

Everyone I've known who's tried to use that reason for getting
residential phone or cable service at a business has failed.

You don't have to assume. I'm a Comcast customer. Data counts both ways.

And like the one other reply that I've seen before I post, I doubt your
friend is going to get residential service.

Believe-it-or-not, that is good news for me bc the business
account is touted to have more bandwidth - and, I am guessing,
allows more data per month.

I just felt it was due diligence to push him towards the cheapest
solution.
