AT what cost? What spyware?

Get ringtones on alt.binaries.sounds.mp3.sound-effects free.
Move them from the microSD onto your phone's internal memory.
Click options after highlighting the one you want and select "Use
As Ringtone" from the popup menu. Works great!

My ringtone is the claxon warning horn from "China Syndrome" when
the reactor is melting down. Wakes up the whole restaurant! I
can even hear it riding my motorcycle!

Larry:
I tried your instructions (above) and moved some midi files from the
SD memory card to the phone memory of my LG VX8300. The phone finds
them in the memory, but does not display any of them as ringtones when
I try to personalize the ringtones. What did I do wrong?
TIA

Your phone must be hobbled by Verizon to prevent you from making
your own MP3s into ringtones. Search Howard Forums for your
model and "ringtones" and you may find a hack to restore the
phone's original functions so you can do it.

Do you live in an Alltel area? That fixed these problems,

Thanks for your quick response. I'm googling the forum now. I'm in an
Alltel area.

Man, MAKE THE JUMP and don't look back!

I just got the MotoROKR Z6M to use as a Bluetooth DUN for my
Nokia N800 internet tablet. No funny business! It's connected
all day so Maemo Mapper can go to Virtual Earth for more
satellite photos of where I roam. Alltel just doesn't care what
you connect to. Works great....even in the Boondocks!

I couldn't believe it when I saw EVDO up in Greeleyville, SC, in
Williamsburg County, a tiny hamlet way up US 52 from Charleston.

Being in Alltel country, you don't have to put up with Verizon's
hobbling bullshit. That's crazy! If you've lots of Verizon-
SELLphoned friends, just get My Circle. You can call 10 numbers
on ANY system 24/7/365 and change them, at will, right from the
webpage. I'm paying $39.95 for 700 regional minutes as I don't
need the Verizon-forced nation-wide service. 1X speed data for
your BT or tethered laptop is $10/mo. EVDO speed data is
$25/mo...no $60 for webpages and email ONLY, which is stupid!

Axcess Web's crap browser refused to download Mini Opera to the
phone, itself, but I downloaded it to my PC and installed it via
the USB cable. Now, even the ROKR has a REAL web browser I don't
have to pay rental fees to use, if I don't want to take the
internet tablet out with me. Opera in landscape mode works
great!

I had Axcess TV, Alltel's brand of MobiTV which is 25 channels,
not 6 or 7 like Vcast will be "someday", but cancelled it because
on the ROKR they forgot landscape mode and the TV picture is just
too small to watch. They'll fix it, maybe, and I'll buy that
again ($10/mo for 25 channels).

Geez, MAKE THE JUMP! Alltel's so easy to do....(c;

Larry:
You are way ahead of me. Spent a great deal of time in the forum, got
some new software, and now need a USB cable - maybe sometime. I really
can't switch service - need the nationwide coverage for travel, and
for a child about to graduate college, who also travels a lot. I
roamed around on US 52 (Mocksville-Salisbury, NC-Rock Hill, SC on the
way to Myrtle Beach. That was way before mobile phones - CBs were the
thing to have back in the 70's. Yeah, I guess I'm a geezer! My other
child (a former Marine - was at Parris island during the two
hurricanes in 1999) just signed up with Alltel this week.
Thanks again, for your help.
Bob

Alltel has nationwide service. You just have to be home based in
an Alltel network to get service.

http://tinyurl.com/38pe6y
Compare the maps and plans with VZW. No comparison. Alltel
roams on VZW or Sprint where it doesn't have service, so you get
the same coverage for LESS MONEY!

My SC/NC regional plan just has 200 more minutes/month. When I
travel, I buy 100 minutes for $10 nationwide coverage. That way
I only pay for nationwide coverage when I need it, not
continuously like VZW. What a rip!

At one time, when My Circle was first introduced, you said it didn't
apply to you because of the rate plan you were on. I've since seen
posts by you indicating you may be using My Circle. So, which is it?

I pay extra for it because it made sense. You can add it to any
plan.

Though I'm sure the OP/spammer won't read this reply, I'd like to take a
moment to say "Thank You" for reminding me to include the subject line "cool
new site" in my killfile.

Once in a blue moon, I'll open up one of these, just to watch you get a
well-deserved beating. Doesn't hurt YOU any, but I get a laugh out of it
anyway.

So thanks.
