Default FS: Box of startacs... for parts on ebay

For sale at auction, a box of Motorola Startacs and Timeports. Heck, some
people want to do everything to keep them working. $20 for the lot; plus
actual shipping.

dr.news //stores.ebay.com/better-price-wireless (not better than you
deserve, just more than you're used to) //free.better-price.biz (for new
lines of wireless service; all carriers; the phones are almost always a
better-price)

Why would anyone buy this? Who needs ONE working startac, let alone a
box of broken starcraps? Thats like selling a truck load of 5 1/4"
broken floppy drives.

This particular phone has an almost cult following. I can see someone
bastardizing parts from other phones to keep an active unit working,
as Verizon will not longer activate this model.

Things like battery doors, antennas and screens can be changed without
altering the ESN.

Cult following? Why? What was it about this phone. The only thing
unique I can tell is the size. The battery was one of the worst in cell
phone history.

Has one of the best receivers I could find at the time.
Few phones have as good receivers even nowadays when gaming, mp3, cameras
and other stuff is given higher design priority over making good voice
calls.
LG 4650 I found out is for the most part just as good so I traded mine in
after 2 weeks worth of testing 'bout a year ago but before then, I could be
talking on my Startac when others could not get any signal or hold a call.
Startac earpiece/speaker was bigger as well for high noise areas.
Dropped many times without any damage so very durable.

For the time, a very good phone. Can't see keeping 'em any longer though,
citing supportability issues, lack of A-GPS for E911, better power and other
communication with the cell towers ( via newer software code advancements ),
etc.

I used one up until last month in the Dominican Republic -- I would
agree with the assesment above; good reception and I had good
battery life in it also. It did it's job as a phone.

I had some problems with it, so I activated a second line on the phone
I use in the States so I have a local number in DR and in the US. Guys
at the plant got the problems figured out and one of our people just
got it activated ( in DR -- not the States ) and loves it.
