Getting pictures off the V with Linux

Hi!
I've got a VX9800, and I use the DataPilot software to get the photos
off of it. I'm preparing to buy a new laptop, and I'm trying to decide
between Ubuntu and Mac. DataPilot doesn't make a Linux Version. What
would I use to interact with my phone from a Linux Laptop? Is anyone
using this solution now? How well does it work for you?
