Default How come no one's talking about the BB Tour?

A new model BB for Verizon and no chatter about it? I'm shocked.

This of course, coming from a guy who only uses a phone for voice calls
and probably thinks the "#" and "*" keys are unnecessary features...

Of course it is! I suppose "#" and "*" do something useful but I'd have
to look in the instruction book to find out what.

Wait a few weeks and the BB Tour will be eclipsed by some other new toy!
There will be the usual crowd of damned fools trying to win at "one
upsmanship". I will continue to use my hopelessly obsolete phone to
make and receive calls. But not many; it's basically for emergencies!

I needed a thread because I can't figure out what the Tour is bringing to
the table that's new or unique. I see there's the option of getting one with
or without a camera, but they're the same price either way. What does it
do?

If they had major new features I'm sure that they would have mentioned them.

It might:
a. be a little cheaper to make
b. be a little lighter
c. be a little smaller
d. be a little faster
etc, etc.

IOW if there was anything dramatic it would have been mentioned before now.

While not quite an identical feature for feature match, it essentially seems
like a Verizon version of the Blackberry 8900-series, with CDMA/GSM "world"
support.

That's typical- any marginal cost savings to RIM from a non-camera version
(designed for security-conscious enterprises) is typically offset by the
lower sales of a camera-less model.

It's a higher-res, media-capable version of a "typical" Blackberry form
factor, like Verizon's 8300-series. For many that's probably more than
enough. However, you're certainly correct that there seems to be nothing
new or compelling here.

Perhaps it's a "one-off" Verizon-exclusive model to give a perceived "high
end" alternative to the Storm for those Crackberry addicts not prepared to
give up the QWERTY? It seems like a comparable alternative to AT&T's Bold;
something currently lacking from Verizon's lineup.

I agree...a Blackberry is a Blackberry. The only BB that really
brought something new to the table was the Storm, as it had a
Touchscreen and a builtin SIM card.

Blackberries are overhyped anyways. They are wireless devices that
somebody decided to add a phone function to. If you do not NEED to
have contant email contact due to your work, a Blackberry is a waste
of money.
