Default How to have a Static IP address placed on your Verizon Smartphone

FYI I made a call today to find out what it takes to put a Static IP address
on a Verizon phone and it is one Tax ID number since the business department
has to do it and a one time fee of $500.

BTW if you have to ask what a Static IP address can be use for then you
don't need one.

What's your use case for needing a static IP on your phone? VPN?

You can actually use a ddns app as well

Oops. You had to ask. You don't need one. :-)

No, I don't need one, but I can imagine why someone would.

Exactly.

It is clear Justin has never setup a router with remote access that is
locked to just one external IP address or he has never setup a remote access
program so it only works with one IP address.

BTW Verizon is not the only cell phone provider that offers a Static IP
address for a cell phone but they are the only ones I know of that want a
Tax ID for a Static IP.

Ouch. No extra monthly fees though? I think AT&T offers the same deal:
$500 setup fee per address and nothing extra (over regular data plan
costs) per month.

I assume you can't get away with using a redirector like DynDNS instead?
I once ran a websserver (by Sphinx software) on my Windows Mobile phone
using DynDNS to direct to it (just as a proof of concept for a few hours-
it beat the crap out of the battery since the server software, which was
designed for old Pocket PC PDAs required the phone to stay on and not
sleep in standby.)

Yes, I have. I was curious as to what the reason behind needing a $500 extra
fee on a smartphone plan was, when you can use other solutions.

FYI my phone call to Verizon was checking for "other solutions."

IIRC, the free version of the server uses a fixed folder structure, but
the paid version lets you use whatever folders you want.

I wanted it to just use the cell connection, but the server quit whenever
the phone (my old Wizard, which tells you how long ago I did this!) when
into standby.

There's some trickery DynDNS uses to get around the cell provider's
blocking of incoming connections (Dyn acts as a "bridge"- your mobile's
outgoing connection to DynDNS acts as the incoming connection.)

Thanks and I'll try to look into that when I have more time. But one thing
I learned from using vxWeb was it was too slow for photos taken by the phone
itself.

I have the paid version and it lets me use all sorts of different folders as
long as I make a list of the folders I want to use and place them into a
particular file. In other words I'm used to Internet Servers where you just
make a folder and it can be used instantly.

Sorry, I was talking about Sphinx. The folder structure in the free
version is predefined, but you can customize it in the paid version.
