Yeah. This sucks. Samsung used to be my favorite phone manufacturer,
too, but this doesn't make me want to buy a Samsung phone.

Well, my older Samsung SCH-a930 just shrugs its proverbial
shoulders -- this is all just like melted cream off a duck's back
if you're not running Android in the first place :-) .

But I am. HTC Glacier, better known as the T-Mobile MyTouch 4G. Just
upgraded it from Froyo to Gingerbread.

Or if you bought a "crappy tablet" with zero expectations that you were
buying a Rolls Royce to begin with. (Yes, I'm seeing the tech web sites
refer to anything that isn't an iPad or an EEE Pad Transformer Prime as
a "crappy tablet".)

Yeah, I have a "crappy tablet". Yeah, I have Android. Not sure which
version, but I do know that (a) I can do Netflix and video chat and
email and web browsing and some other things on it, and (b) it cost me
only $190 (Vizio).

I also can guarantee, based on the price, that (c) It Is What It Is and
will never by anything else--and if I want something else, I'll have to
buy it.

Gee, what a concept.

Yeah, everybody go on and chase after "must have the best of whatever in
a brand new evolving market" and set yourselves up for disappointment
when you get it home and ten minutes later something "better" comes out:

http://theoatmeal.com/comics/apple

and/or when you discover that you can't run the next gen of OS on
it--and because it's a brand new and rapidly evolving market of
products, the next gen of OS is only ten minutes away.

You mean like the Droid X, which was released not long before the Samsung

How about sharing the blame with the carriers?

They are the ones who insist on loading the phones with bloatware that
can't be removed or stopped so sucking up RAM and processing power.

Blame Google for not enforcing the terms of the license.

At least Samsung has some Nexus models that have pure android systems
without all the other junk.

And what is so compelling about ICS that it makes Gingerbread phones
obsolete?

Motorola! I've had cell phones since my 3 watt analog bag phone in 1995
and the two worst phones I ever had were Motos.

Just went to the Verizon store yesterday to get them to switch DH's
lovely little Samsung dumb phone over to the Moto "phone from hell"
global phone as we are leaving for South America.

I was talking to the guy about getting an Incredible 2 which is global
but he cautioned against it as it's hard to stop the radios and roaming
data charges when you first turn them on.

BTW, I tried to call VZW customer service about something this afternoon
and the girl said they couldn't answer any questions as they were in the
"middle of an upgrade" *** was that all about?

Din'tcha hear? 2011 is ending, 2012 is coming on, and that one's
gonna be a Leap Year, so they've got to upgrade all their date books
and appointment calendars. They're planning on the week between
Christmas and New Year's to carry that out.

Big whoop. What OS was on the device when you got it? Were you
promised ICS would become available for it WHEN YOU BOUGHT IT?

I have a Droid X. It came with Froyo, and was subsequently updated to
Gingerbread. Would I like to see ICS on it? Sure. Google and/or Moto
said at some point that "if it can run Gingerbread, it can run Ice
Cream Sandwich". Will I see ICS made available for it? Probably not
officially, maybe as a custom ROM. Do I actually care? Nope.

It came with what it came with, and no one has ever promised that it
would get an OS upgrade, certainly not a major-version upgrade (2.x to
4.x)

I don't know many people who ever got a present worth more than a hundred
or so dollars, let alone a phone or a car.

But apparently there were plenty of whiny ***** *****ing they didn't get
this expensive thing or that expensive thing.
