Default I HATE THE CURRENT TEXT HANDLING

I don't send a ton of texts. Maybe 200-300 a month, but when I do I often
send 10-12 identical texts to 10-12 people on my contact list. NOT the same
people every time so a group grope is not the answer.

I used to be able to open my text service, and just select the people I
wanted from my phone's contact list. After one of the many upgrades Android
upgrades that ability vanished. Sure it added predictive guessing if I
start typing their name or number, but even then it doesn't show all the
matches. Only the first two or three.

I want my old simple easy to select from the contact list texting back.

Is it gone forever?

Checking out Handcent SMS as an alternative. Looks a lot like the old text
interface so far.

So far I really like Handcent SMS. Now if I could just suppress the stock
text message tool.

If this upgrade was involuntary, you should complain. You should also
try to learn how to "lock down" what you have. It may not be possible!
If it's not possible to to block involuntary upgrades, complain! It may
not get you anywhere but if you don't complain the Powers That Be won't
have a clue. Of course it's possible the the PTB never had a clue
and never will.

It's possible that VZW might restore your phone to its former state if
you ask them nicely. It's also possible that they cannot or will not
no matter what you say or do!

As unstable as early versions of Android OS was I was happy for most of the
upgrades.

I turned off text notification with the stock ap, and installed Handcent
SMS. So far it seems to work just fine, and it has the features I wanted.
If Handcent fails I am still receiving the message in the native ap. I am
just not seeing them as new notifications.

That's what I love about Android. If you don't like how something works,
there's usually an app to fix it (I was going to say "there's an app for
that" but figured it's the wrong platform).
