I decided to go back to my old Motorola RAZR V3M but after turning it
on after a month sitting in the drawer it says "Invalid Battery"
regardless of whether plugged in or not. The battery symbol doesn't
even show.
What's going on with this phone, can you tell me please?

Remove the battery, let sit a minute....
Plug the battery back in but don't boot the phone, leave it off.
Plug in the charger and run it until the battery recharges fully.
Turn on the phone and all should be well as the battery's IC has reset to
the full charge state from its state of confusion.
The IC in the battery talks to the phone over that third contact. It's
telling the phone jibberish, which is an invalid battery because it's not
what the phone is looking for.....
The phone won't charge or use an "invalid battery" which may destroy it, so
you get no battery symbol.
If this doesn't work, replace the bad battery with a new one. They're
really cheap off the net, especially the recycled ones from recycled
phones, which are usually just fine.
Bon Appetit!

I'll bet in your early ET days you never thought we would be rebooting
batteries. I never would have thought so.

hee hee....we rebooted lots of batteries. They're strewn on the seabed
floor for some future archeologist to turn into a government grant he can
bottom feed off of.
I remember when a 12 pound, OD Green battery would make about 5 minutes of
transmit before another 12 pound, OD Green battery would be replacing it.
Of course, that was true in my "Carphone", too. When you pressed the dial
button on one of the 8 channels, you could hear the motor-generator high
voltage power supply winding up in the trunk, added to the vibrator supply
the receiver was using.....(c;]
At least now we can make phone calls WITHOUT the engine running....
