Default Kyocera KWC-2325: No service at just ONE location!

To alt.cellular.verizon --

I have a Kyocera KWC-2325 phone. Yes I know it's a few years old, but
I like it. Anyway, a few weeks ago this problem started: At just ONE
location (Kew Gardens, Queens, New York City), it has no service. The
phone's display jumps back and forth between strong signal (4 bars)
and "Searching". The phone works PERFECTLY, everywhere else. I've
tried updating the phone's roaming capability (*228, option 2), but to
no avail. I have called Verizon Wireless several times; they claim
that they can't find a problem in this geographical area, and that I
should just get a new phone.

Flash: I just talked to VZW tech support, and they suggest I try
having the phone's software upgraded from JX1.0.172 to JX1.0.27.
Hopefully the Verizon Wireless store will be able to do this for me.
But the tech rep didn't hold out a lot of hope for me; apparently my 4-
year-old phone is ANCIENT by Verizon's standards.

Has anyone else had an experience like this? Thanks!

Does anyone else you know with a VZW phone have a problem in that area?

If it only happens in one location - It is probably is not a phone problem.

I would try another phone in that area to see if it does the same thing.

There have been instances where tech support in not aware of (or will not
admit) there is a problem in a certain location.

I recommend AGAINST doing this. Verizon techs destroyed my Kyocera 2235
when they screwed-up a firmware upgrade. They gave me a new (read:
refurbished) phone. Since your phone is no longer available, you'd have
to get a new phone. And who knows, they'll probably charge you.

It's probably a cell site or network problem. See if you can try some
other phones there. Otherwise, give it some time (a few months) and see
if they fix it.

Phones can be had on eBay, and, theoretically, service can be transferred
for free via the website.

Well, I just discovered (on my own of course, no thanks to the VZW
people) a FIX for my problem, kluge-y though it may be. When I set my
phone to "ANALOG ONLY", it works fine in the problem area! I'm not
sure yet if I'll incur additional charges by doing this.... Thanks to
everyone for their input. (BTW, my wife's Verizon cell phone -- a
newer one -- works fine in the place where I have the problem.)

You won't get charged extra, but some features on your phone might not
work. For example, the voice mail notification might not work (I'm not
sure).
