LG vx 9900 Email Button Question Black/Silver vs. Orange

I was told that the email button on the vx9900 (lg env) is only for the
email subscription service on the black and silver version, but is
assignable on the orange version. Does anyone know if the more current black
and silver phones will be updated with the assignable feature or if it is
only available on the orange? I was told that is THE only difference so I
wondered if it was a firmware issue.
